I found a review on some DX10 games they showed the performance rate on the high end cards and the best card available (8800) was only 30fps????? This would be really bad news if you just upgraded your graphics card, spent $600+ on it, and in 6 months you will be getting 30fps on vista games? I don't understand the logic behind paying $600+ (or $1000 AUS)for 30fps. Maybe we are currently at the end of graphic card generations?? Like the old readon 9800? Would someone please explain this massive leap/drop gaming/pc performance.

The 8800 isn't just for DX10 - It kicks butt in DX9 and OpenGL too (when it works, crappy drivers). DX10 is overrated anyway.

DX10 is overrated? How did you come to that conclusion?

I know it isn't for dx10 only, but dx10 only games are coming in very soon. The 2900 readon clocked at 16fps.

DX10 games are going to perform a lot better then DX9 games that have a DX10 patch for extra effects.
Engines need to be built from the ground up to support DX10 or the result becomes lackluster effects with a hit in performance.

It takes a lot of time for developers to learn the new API and all the new functions and instruction sets, classes, optimisations, procedures, etc. that DX10 offers. It's something you can't expect them to take fully advantage off in under a couple of weeks and even months. They are barely learning how to take advantage of it. It's like a tool, you only master it if you use it enough. Also, game development takes such a long time that a drastic overhaul because of DX10 is denied if the game is halfway through development, since it would mean that they would have to delete everything and start all over again (except for sound, cinematics or the framework and storyline)

Here is the link to The first DX10 RTS game World in Conflict

http://www.hardspell.com/english/doc/showcont.asp?news_id=1097&pageid=1416

There is about 20 pages of statistics and pictures. I would hate to think how badly crysis will run now on an 8800

The 8800 series are all low end directx 10 cards. Kinda lie the 6800 of the dx9 world. BTW from what I've seen the radeon 2900 out performs the 8800 gtx in directx 10 games :P

it is overrated, in this age companys are only interested in graphical capabilities. I for one, am not interested in DX10 simply because its really not a necessity...

The benchmark for lost planet and other patched Dx10 games are irrelevant, we will see when crysis comes out

Well it will take time, but here is an example of running a game nice @ 19x12. Call of Juarez on a 8800gtx runs at around 35fps maxed out. Albeit with QX6700 and 4x1gb, but it shows what a game can do from almost ground up Dx10. Not fully though.

DX10 was hyped to high heaven to promote sales of Vista.

I know because I have DX10 and it isn't anything special compared to DX9.

The people who still believe that directx 10improves performance and that framerate issues in dx10 games/demos are due to un-optimised engines or patches, are dreaming. Directx 10 adds littlefor considerable performance costs. The difference is smaller than between directx 8 and directx 9 games.

Umm my HD 2900xt maxed the COJ DX10 benchmark at 71fps and averaged 31fps the min was low like in the teens. I can't remember the exact number though.

I would have to disagree...
With the added effects/visuals and added calculations, any playable FPS is a large increase over DX9.
DX9 cards simply can't do what DX10 cards can which is A LOT.

There will be a performance increase but as I have explained before, it isn't technically getting more FPS then a DX10 card. You have to compare the FPS a DX9 card would be getting with having to run in DX10, as to what a DX10 card gets in DX10.

BTW- It has been made FACT that the engine needs to be built, practically, from the ground up for DX10 for there to be a noticeable performance increase.

Roy was quick to point out that "it's important to note that the massive performance titles you've mentioned are results from games that are early looks rather than reflective of the first wave of first generation titles." Roy continued, telling us that some more betas would be coming out in the next two months, with full game launches starting as early as August. He then revealed that "the experiences with those will be very different for a number of reasons."Roy Taylor

It's the fastest DX9 card out. Who is even playing DX10 games right now?? When there is no difference between the two, right now. Later games will take advantage of DX10 and the high-end cards.
