specifically ALL OF THEM GoG, gamersgate, impulse, steam, D2D, GFWLM, amazon, etc. all swtor free.. instead their using swtor to force people into using their EA games only DD service for the titles.. namely the newly christened origin.. which is basically a boiled down version of GFWLM thats ripped a few pages out of the "how-to-make-steam" guide.

BF3 will also be available through this channel first.. pre-orders for SWTOR are imminently approaching if you dont want to have to make room for another service retail is the ONLY other way of gtting the game.. what a stupid concept..

http://www.vg247.com/2011/06/03/ea-to-launch-origin-digital-distribution-service-with-swtor-exclusive/

however it appears that this may be a cross-platform service meaning.. more than likely they want to beat steam to the punch to the console market.. i dont think it will work tbh xbl and PSN are kings in their respective system and consolites dont like change.. heck they barely accept steam on the ps3.

this comes as a shock when they just recently broke a deal with GoG to let them sell all their back catalogue of games..

im sorry but thats a pretty good reason to not get SWTOR.. a new DRM based DD applicaiton based service with ties to the console market ..

hang me now!

Interest in this game just went from 50/100 to -10/100. I hate having BC2 on EA's DD service. Its a PITA to use.

What's the big deal....? World of Warcraft did the same thing or am I wrong? How about Sony's MMOs? It's an MMO, just buy it at the store....

sony's MMO's dont have their own DD service application.. im not talking about something web based in talking a full blown program like steam or gfwlm

WoW moved into battle.net true but battl.net has been around for a LONG time it serves as more of a networking & security system than a proper DD service.

square enix has play online which is sort of an example yes but you dont see playonline used anymore ff11 & 14 are basically the only two games on it..

and while felipe i agree you can get it at the store.. no everyone happens to live within reasonable distance of a game or gamestop or wal-mart..

its a simple fact of lfie this SWTOR is being sued to bait a market and suerbase into existance

That's fine. Blizz had to renovate their whole online system to make WoW stable and fast online, so BioWare probably wants to do the same thing so their MMO is stable. I don't see how a company that wants to bring a good product is "slapping gaming in the face"....

doesnt bother me, I guess ea feels they dont need steam for it. They could be right, the game should be a big seller.

OMG You'll have to get up, take a cab or get in your car, drive and buy the game, THATS UNBELIEVABLE!

*storms out and leaves the room slamming the door*

Seriously? This isn't a problem, something like UPlay's DRM system is.

If you don't like this, then you don't like any of blizzards games, mainly StarCraft 2. And people who don't like SC2 are generally crazy people.

I agree. It's like the world has gone DOWNLOAD crazy and if a company doesn't want to use STEAM then it's the DEVIL !!!!

EA want some of that Digital Download pie, can you blame them? More competition is going to be better for us. Steam sales, D2D Sales, Origin (EA) sales and more. What's not to like?

I'm just sick of putting all these 3rd party apps on my PC in order to play a damn game, I'm at 4 I believe now just for my games. No more for me and if that means no more EA games then no more EA games.

I agree on that... I mostly had STEAM just to play the games.... (then I discovered I could use it for friends chat etc) Maybe ToR will be obtainable through the EA "Steam" Client, but maybe you won't need it....

They should have gone with something like CD project's model for attracting people to buy off of their DD service: Offer a bunch of incentives that the other services don't. Make it the best value. Attempting to strong arm the industry like this isn't really good for the game's overall sales, only a few games and devs have the pedigree to pull something like this off, Blizzard did, but they are blizzard. BF3 might do it, but i don't think SW:TOR is up to it.

It's not exactly a shock since EA is always slow to get modern titles on DD other than their store. This isn't such a big deal. Ok, you want to preorder it? Go ahead and preorder the boxed copy on Amazon and get it on release day for only a buck.

I personally don't mind the app. I hate registering. Having my personal details all over the place isn't my fancy....specially after the DOUBLE hacking of Sony (yes, they got hacked again....check the news)

LOL, are you saying that BioWare (with EA and LucasArts behind it) isn't strong enough to have their own download service?

DO you see Blizzard games on DD services?

What about Half Life? is it on D2D? Nope..

So why complain about EA doing the same thing, SWTOR is their flagship game, they pretty much have every right to keep it a exclusive to their own DD service if they wish.

Because I've got enough damn programs and information registered required to play my games with all of them already equipped with all this "social networking" crap. If they can't be bothered to put in on one of the dozens of identical services already up and running and very popular then I've got no reason to be bothered buying it.

Gotta love how dramatic he makes all his topics sound. :D

"Celeron rises from grave screaming blood & vengeance!", "EA Slap gaming in the face!!".

Oh and the actual news aren't very surprising to be honest, no MMO uses the listed DD services.

If you buy them on Steam. As far as I know, if you just download the client from the official Rift website, you're not running it off steam or if you buy retail. That's only for people who bought them from Steam.

This isnt really a problem for me since I tended to buy retail anyway since I prefer to buy MMO's in retail format. The only reason I got FFXI off of steam was because I needed the new abbyssa add ons and expansion packs 4 that night since I had just returned and the stores were closed and City of Heroes was on sale. I planned on buying battlefield 3 on steam though so I hope its up on steam for pre order.

So ur basing ur review of a game depending if it uses or not a popular client instead of how good or bad the actual game is??? Amazing. People here still seem to surprise me.

Tell that to EA, they have a monopoly on the NFL and no one else can make a NFL pc game even though they refuse to. Not to mention no one can make a competing NFL game for consoles either, EA does not believe in competition. This is a bad company for gamers.

I think people seem to miss the point of maintaining a company. A company with no competition is a COMPANY'S dream !!! of course they don't want anyone else competing with their product, duhhhh.

As for NFL for PC, there is just no market, that's the reason. Would you continue to make a product if no one bought it?

Been using eadm and ea for some their major titles for awhile now, no problem. Dealt with their support team on a couple of occasions they have always responded and been pretty cool in my experience. I did retail for mass efffect 2 and crysis series it was cheaper :D

Just keep your proof of purcahse/receipt for all games purchases wherever you purchase them.

Also I see valve games on ea and vice versa so I think eventually it will have to go to steam becuase steam has a huge share of the market with loyal customers why shrink coverage for a subscription service, you want max coverage if you are a publisher who wants to knock off WoW and CoD

My 1000th post on GS woot woot :D

A bad company for gamers? They've given us some great games despite all the hate for EA. I think some people have this mindset that we should hate all big companies. There is a business side in the gaming industry too.

Agree entirely. Can't cry foul at EA for wanting to do something Valve started doing years ago, or other companies... but anyway, this game still looks awful. I'm more concerned about BF3 since I already pre-ordered it on D2D.

Well unlike you, I read this part. Not sure yet if I'll get the key on the same day and just have to register it with their service, or I get the game later...

This isn't really EA slapping PC gaming in the face, it's them foolishly attempting to gain a foothold in the DD market, but I predict it will backfire. People never like being forced to use a single DD service for a title, especially one that sucks. Being forced to use Steam for a game is intrusive, but at least it's the best DD service out there by far.

I totally agree...And about the "backfire" part...iam 100% it will happen...NOT using other DD services means lesser publicity for the game...And ofc there are gamers(like me) that dont want a DD client for every game they buy...I think only die hard fans of the SW series will buy this game...they'r not going to win any new fans with this approach...

Except it doesn't suck and people don't mind, they'll buy them either way, it happened with Steam and it'll work for any company, especially EA.

Steam had a lot of haters, they got over it, it's up to you, nobody really cares about personal preferences of others it's also pretty old to assume most of the others think like you do.

EADM is a "download manager" for EA published games, just like how Blizz handles things, Steam on the other hand is a digital distribution platform, they do not compete or compare.

[QUOTE="Brendissimo35"]

Exactly. I started by hating STEAM when it first came out cause I had to install it to play Half Life, but then I realized it wasn't that bad and don't mind it now. For ToR it will just be a download client, like WoW has with their Launch Program..... it's so naive for people to think that this is going to stop them from buying probably the next BIG MMO....

IT will eventually make its way to other services. Nothing wrong with what EA is doing for their MMO here....... Now if you said BF3 wasn't after DD services had announced the game on their sites then it would have been a slap.. This is just Meh.

I don't think its a big deal, but it is very obnoxious. I wasn't buying this game anyway, so it makes no difference to me.
