What has gaming come to? Just bought a copy of BF3 (yeah I know, late to the party, I haven't played a lot of games since '10-11 anyways)

First of all I require an internet connection to install the game (Luckily I'm at home so this wasn't a problem... If this was work I'd be pissed) which is stupid enough on its own. But after installing and having download all kinds of updates and stuff they force me to sign up for some BS origin account that I don't even want, how about just letting me play the game?

Later once everything is seemingly in order I launch the game and all that happens is that it opens up a stupid fvcking web browser directing me to their website "Please pre-order BF4 now" f*** off, I just got BF3, and no I don't want any god damn overpriced DLC.

I see there's an icon for "quick match", "campaign" etc... Does this also mean that I am required to have internet connection just to play the game? Do I always have to launch via a browser? (Which by the way, would be the dumbest idea in gaming since forever) But even worse when I click on these icons there's nothing happening.

f*** you, EA.

Battlefield 3 has always been disastrous for me. Only game I've ever played that got consistently broken by patches.

On what? EA? If so I concur. Had to restart chrome after  uninstalling toolbars/extensions then it worked properly, well except for that fact that I am forced to download and then install a stupid ass plug-in. Boy do I miss the days of popping a disk in and playing a game right after...

You expect to have no updates on a game you install 2 years after release? All of your complaints are pretty dumb and it looks like you already hated EA long before this. Quit nitpicking.

Nitpicking? I think I have more than enough complaints to justify the hate... 2 years later or not, an hour ++ worth of patches for a 3.3MB/s download speed is ridiculous... And no, I have not had any problems with EA before so I did not hate EA long before this. As I stated in my first post I sort-of quite gaming back in '10-11 and have only just started again this summer. Back in my day son, EA was still cool.

Well if you bought Battlefield for its single player than I'm a bit a suprised because it's not very good. Presuming you bought it for multiplayer, you'd have to have an internet connection, so it's not suprising you need to be connected so that you can play online and receive patches.

However, I understand your point of few, and it's a shame it has to be launched through the browser and LANs over a single connection aren't possible unless over an online server (despite there being plenty of empty ones people could use).

I would much prefer a launched in-game ai. It seems so much more conveniant. Hopefully BF4 offers more options in this regard.

I bought it for both reasons. MP is obviously where its at , and I'll be playing that during my spare time where I have an internet connection, but I'm also dependent on offline content to make time pass faster during my work hours (military guard) and as there is no internet I can only play SP games.

Wow, this thread is like 3 years too late.

Origin is fine, quit whining, BL now is a pretty neat system and works very well. You're complaining about things that everyone has gotten used to and are just a reality of the direction that the gaming industry is heading. If you had wanted a SP game, BF was definitely the wrong choice.

You do know that you can play BF3 Singleplay Offline right? Just double clicks on the BF3 icon and if you don't have Internet connection then it will just load the Singleplay game and if you have Internet connection then it will load the Web thing so you can choose between Singplay and Multiplay.

As far as I know you don't need Internet connection to play any EA singleplay game as long you already have an Origin Account. All multiplay game nowsday need you to have an Account before you can login and play so this is nothing new....

You probably need to download the Plugin for that Web thing before you can play. Open BF3's Web thing and look on top of the page then you'll see something green/yellow arrow (I think). Just click on that then it will download something and then you just need to install that and you are ready to go.

I thought bf3 was primarily mp, of course you have to go online. Don't bother with the campaign, its a super linear scripted pos.

Wow, welcome to 2011. I can't believe people are still whining about this crap. Also, most games these days require an internet connection to install the game. Is it really that obscure to encounter that?

Haven't been gaming in 2-3 years. So yeah, gaming-wise I'm still stuck in 2011 lol. Well apart from Bioshock Infinite and a few others...  It wasn't that common to require an internet connection for SP 3 years ago was it? I remember it caused a hell of a riot when SCII was comfirmed to have no LAN, but back then when I lived at home I didn't see it as a problem.

It is where I live. But then again my friends won't put up with it. Seeing as its already demanding internet, might aswell use that precious data looking for ways to play the single player campaign the same way pirates do. Its just simpler that way. I've never hated EA, because I was 1st screwed over by Steam way back in 2009, I've been on the look out eversince.

Are you stupid enough to believe that people should do extensive research about a game before they buy it? *sees a game in a store* "wow, this looks cool, I might buy it... But I haven't done any research on it, better come back another day, more informed next time!"

READ: I bought something and did not do any research on it so now I blame the company.

I wonder if people like you do the same with other things, for example a washing machine. I didn't read it was only 6kg load so now when I put 8kg it doesn't work properly, so I blame the company who created the machine.

Don't know if trolling or just ignorant cause if the later, Origin and Battlelog both work fine for millions of people.

Unless it's a full-fledged MMORPG, I won't buy any game that requires me to connect 24/7. Connecting once to verify an install, fine, but connecting every time I play just for the privilege of using something I paid for? Nope! Fortunately, all the games saddled with that draconian, anti-consumer, requirement haven't interested me in the slightest so I don't feel that I've missed out on anything.

Not just MMOs, you also have to add MP games like Planetside, Tribes, Age of Empires Online etc.  These games require Internet to play cause they are Multiplayer Games.

As for the 24/7 thing, I don't like it either.  I don't mind the game checking in every time you boot up, or even every 3-5 boots just to make sure ur not doing anything dodgy.

You deserve a medal for the dumbest analogy ever written on Gamespot.

My scenario is closer to this: I bought a washing machine, but apparently it doesn't use normal washing powder, instead you have to buy a special type of soap manufactured by the company that made the washing machine. No one else does this sort of thing, but this particular washing machine manufacturer does anyway. On top of that, the soap won't work if its kept in room temperature for some reason, so you have to keep it your fridge.

Upon claiming that it is absurd having to buy special soap AND keep it in the fridge, people simply say "lolol do research". That's how dumb EAs origin/browser setup is.

But I wonder if people like you do this with other things. Do you research the particular type of toilet paper you buy? Just in case it might be made of sand paper?

Do you ask the cashier about the origin of their apples to make sure they are not poisonous?

Do you check the history of restaurants before going to them to make sure they don't have a habbit of not washing their hands?

No, but I know (without even checking) that most games these days on PC require Internet. It's been like that for nearly 10 years now. Do you use Steam?

Yeah, I don't go near Origin, for the most part. I only made an exception for Mass Effect 3 because I already invested hundreds of hours into the Mass Effect series. It's not that it's bad. I just really hate the idea of being forced to use THREE clients. Steam is enough. I can't do uplay, origin and Steam. If EA and Ubisoft want me to buy their games, they should release them like they used to back in good old days, or they should put it on Steam WITHOUT a requirement for Origin or uPlay. I feel the same with consoles. I just pick one... I can't be bothered to buy three fcking consoles. It's too much.

You don't need 3 clients for Mass Effect 3. Just one (Origin). And why should Valve be the only company allowed to have a client?

You don't understand. I don't want to have to use more than one client, period. I'm not saying you need three clients for Mass Effect 3. Learn to read. Anyway, EA can have their own client. I am not stopping them from doing so. I just don't want to use more than one, and so I'll just go with the one I think is best. In this case, Steam. EA has the choice to make money from me by making Origin optional. If they don't want to, that's fine, too. I'll just either not play their games at all, or I'll just get them on a console. Lately, though, there are exactly zero EA games that I have interest in, so it doesn't really matter much .

Only an idiot doesn't research a product before buying. I feel no sympathy for you. Also, the FDA regulates the food industry so troll harder, you're not doing very well right now.

Lost-to-Apathy

Ahh I get ur point now. Yes, it annoys me too to have so many clients and so many online accounts. I also wish there was just ONE client for everything. Actually, I wish there weren't ANY clients at all like the old days. On the flip side, a little client isn't going to stop me from playing some awesome titles. You only live once (in this life anyway) and you can't take ur games with you so I say enjoy what you have and accept how the gaming world is now.

We've had this type of thread a few times. All I can say in this case is that it's just like every other game that requires a digital service. UPLAY or Steam included. Plenty of people raged at web browser battlelog when it came out, not many anymore. Why? Because it's a pretty good system and if you hae a modicum of patience you will probably get used to it and appreciate the advantages.

I was one of those people that didn't like the web based browser (mostly cause it was a pain to make work with Firefox at the start). Now it's a lot better, and I see the idea of the browser available on any device without having the game even installed, so you can check ur stats or show them off, see what ur friends are doing etc. Also they have taken it a step further with BF4: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zB3LFY1sp8Q

But you have to use origin on a console anyway... its just less intrusive, but its there..

Battlefield, NFS, etc. Pretty much any EA game that has an online component.

Haven't played any of them. Hey EA doesn't make games that I care about anymore anyway. I don't even know why I'm talking about this.

You must have a really low set of titles available then if you don't play any game with any sort of DRM ???

Obviously I play games that have DRM if I use Steam. Anyway, I have lots of titles that I look forward to. Wolfenstein, Evil Within, Thief, Witcher 3, Mad Max. None are from Ubisoft or EA (two companies that make games I generally do not like anyway).

Oh ok, I was confused cause of ur signature, cause you use Steam. I think from those titles you mentioned, most of them will have DRM too, except probably Witcher 3.

Yep, I'm counting on them to have DRM. It would take a miracle for them not to at this point. I'm still a supporter of GOG and DRM free, though, so that's why that's there.

[QUOTE="Toxic-Seahorse"]A pretty poor troll attempt. In your story I don't know what's funnier, you blowing things out of proportion or you being so stupid to not research a game before buying it. Mozelleple112
Are you stupid enough to believe that people should do extensive research about a game before they buy it? *sees a game in a store* "wow, this looks cool, I might buy it... But I haven't done any research on it, better come back another day, more informed next time!"

The fact that you call it extensive research is beyond hysterical. Looking up gameplay videos and a few reviews is not extensive nor time consuming. If you think otherwise, you're damn well lazy. And you actively go around stores to impulsively buy games? LOL

dear whiner, you have just bought yourself a multiplayer shooter video game. here in 2013, we play multiplayers through internet, not LAN.

if you bought it for singleplayer mode, i feel sorry for you. it works offline, but it sucks major-tom's spaceballs.

The games crap, don't even bother with it imo.
