I have a samsung syncmaster from a couple years ago I love, I need another one for my graphics work. What is a good monitor to get for $150-$250 range (if that is even suffficient to get a good enough one) with good depth of black, good color, and high res.

I don't necessarily need a fast response time, its not gonna be for gaming too much and IM not sure what comprises HD, but dont necessarily need that either. My screen is semi-glossy, but I dont like the ones that are so glossy they're hard to see.

Is backlit alot better?

I randomly found these as rated high in some reviews (not so sure about the first, led one, i dont care about the energy efficiency)

You want an IPS panel, that's for sure. LED refers to the backlight; it's replacing the old CCFL backlights, and really high-end LCDs (HP DreamColor, LaCie, Eizo, etc.) even use RGBLED backlights for increased color gamut, though they are well out of your price range (maybe unless you multiply it by ten). Problem is, IPS does not come cheap. Even $250 will likely just get you a TN panel if you're shopping new. Your best bet is to hit the local craigslist and hope you can find something like, say, a Dell UltraSharp 2005FPW for $100. (It's happened here at least once.) Or just find an FD Trinitron or Diamondtron NF-based aperture grille CRT. The former may have brightness issues (G2 voltage too high) and color drifts, but a color restore feature in the OSD should fix most of it, and WinDAS with a colorimeter can fix the rest. The latter, I have no experience with, sadly-just haven't found any locally. Either way, you should end up with a display capable of rivaling most IPS LCDs in quality with better-than-TN input lag, response time, and refresh rates, all for $6-40 (depending on seller) if you're willing to put up with the bulk.

Get a good CRT instead, any LCD at that price isn't tuned for accurate colour reproduction.
