Of course they will. The Elder Scrolls world is Bethesda's flagship property, ES5 is a given. The question is, will they listen to the complaints people had about Oblivion (which could have been the best RPG made, but wasn't) and return to the RPG roots of Morrowind and Daggerfall? Don't get me wrong, I liked Oblivion, but it was disappointing. It could have been a much better game than it was. Bethesda took too much out of the game (in relation to Morrowind) and concentrated on the wrong aspects of the game. It's a pretty good action game, but only a fair RPG at best.
When they make ES5, I'm hoping they'll reduce the amount of scaling the world does with you, so you can get a feeling of power or helplessness depending on where and whne you wander. I also hope they add back all the weapons and spells they ripped out of the world. I still don't understand what drugs the developers were taking when they decided that reducing options was a good idea. A 5 year old could have told them that wasn't going to go over very well, and it didn't. I guess we'll see soon enough.
If it comes out anytime this generation the game is **** as they won't have graphics as a sales point; so will have to *shock* rely on it being a good game.
I think Fallout 3 is the open world time filler till the next TES game, by all means don't think Bethesda milking the franchises will end with TES IV but Bethesda may wait till next console gen. They will want something to distract from the further system 'refinement' they will typically be doing and what's better than shiny new next generation graphics?
Of course there will be an ES5. Bethesda knows the Elder Scrolls series is enjoyable and that many people look forward to this game. The game will most likely be on a next gen console, therefore great graphics are a given. But I do not want to see an MMO. At least not a MASSIVE multiplayer online game. I just want to see maybe parties of four via Xbox live or the Playstation Network.
I'm sure everything I personally want to see will be there. For example, new spells, new weapons (including new weapon categories. meaning more than just glass and daedric as being strongest), better graphics (which is a given, as with any game with a sequel). I even want to see a new race. Even though it would conflict with the basis of the land of Tamriel,I think Bethesda could work up some magic and give us a new race or two. It all depends.
Oblivion, to me, was the best Elder Scroll, by far. So many improvements were made compared to Morrowind, and it's noticable not just by vision, but by playing. So im trusting Bethesda with what they are doing, they will give us one hell of a game, no doubt.

Money talks. I think it's pretty obvious that Oblivion was their most profitable venture into the Elder Scrolls story.
Yes I think so. If they do I think the most probable area for it to take place is the region of skyrim. Which is I believe the northern part of tamriel. Where the norrds come from.Regardless of how you felt about the game it was a financial success. Which is why it is likely Bethesda will make another and I certainly hope they do.
Tell you the truth.I certainly hope not...ttomm1946I actually hope they do but this time with a sense of real time events.

i agree wholeheartedly
I hope they go back to more of a Daggerfall game and NOT Oblivion.patton101
I don't think it's going to happen. There's no going back since Oblivion's multi-platform success.

I think it can be done. Oblivion just feels like a half finished game to me. They stripped the series of all the content that was in Daggerfall and even was still somewhat present in Morrowind. There's so much in Daggerfall that could still make it back into the series even on a multi platform release.
I'm praying for less spoken dialogue and more content. The spoken dialogue in Oblivion was just awful and made for less interesting conversations with NPC's as they just couldnt fit as much different dialogue options as they could with type dialogue. Compare Morrowing dialogue options with Oblivions and you'll see what I mean.

I see what you mean and am sure and sorry that your prayer won't be answered. The new breed of Beth fans won't accept anything less than full voice acting in future games. What NWN2 can do with ease and grace is something future TES games cannot.

Bethesda cant get better? With more money comes more resources, more voice actors, more writers. Why couldnt they improve the spoken dialogue in the next ES? Its not like they havent proven themselves already as capable devs.

I agree that they'll wait for the next console. Oblivion partly did so well because there weren't any "hardcore" RPGs that came out around that time. It was the "Baldur's Gate" of this gaming generation -- lots of copycats came along and some did it pretty well or better (The Witcher) and some did it badly (Gothic II, Dark Elements of Might and Magic). Right now we're getting ready to be crushed under a flow of RPGs/JRPGs (Fallout 3, Fable 2, Last Remnant, Final Fantasy XIII, White Knight Chronicles, Dragon Age, etc. etc.) and while most of those are on the consoles, Bethesda will wait until the time is right for a fantasy RPG on all the platforms.
Not to change the subject, but I'm far more excited about the prospects of Dragon Age than a new Elder Scrolls... I just hope it's more of a Baldur's Gate than a Neverwinter Nights...

Im not following. You dont think Bethesda has made some good games?
*edit* and to the poster above, you call Gothic 2 a bad copy of ES games? I will spare you because you have a picture of my favorite rpg characters ever as your avatar, but the Gothic series(especially Gothic 2) are great games, and they do some things very differently and better than ES.
(off topic...) Gothic II just felt very broken to me, mainly in combat. During combat, my character tended to get stuck on every small rock or some other object that I'd step over in most 3d RPG's, so I quickly get surrounded and beaten up. I don't know if that a collision detection bug, or "realism", or just me being a crappy player (always possible). Then the combat itself (moving issues aside) felt like a clickfest, and maybe that's a "it's as good as you play it" issue too, but I found hyper clicking got me through most battles. I feel like I really TRIED to like it, but flamed out about 1/3rd of the way through.

Alright, dangit... you've guilted me into giving it another go. I've just queued Gothic II on Goozex with hopes of having it by next weekend. I'm sure you all know that your general mood in "real life" affects your opinion of a game when playing it. Maybe I was having a bad week, but I remember being frustrated with Gothic II, but I know it has a near-cult following, so maybe second time's a charm...
(not to advertise for Goozex, but for quick acquisition or liquidation of PC games, it's a great way to go...)
Mike
A it will not be an MMO. Bethesda doesn't work on MMOs. Second I hope its more like Morrowind ... that game was the pinnacle at this point. So amazing :)

Fallout 3 might be a hint of what to expect from ES 5. We'll see.

Considering they used some of the same voice actors in Fallout 3 as they did in Oblivion... I think you have your answer. Just watch the Fallout 3 gameplay vids.

In interviews they've admitted that the limited voice over work in Oblivion was a glaring weakness, and that they have 10 times the number of voice actorsfor FO3, with "hours" of unique spoken dialog.
Heck, even back w/ Baldur's Gate they only had about 7 main voice over people, some doing 4 or 5 different voices.

Bethesda's take on maturity is swearing and excessive gore. They missed the target and hit the little kid a mile away.

It didn't go over well? Tell that to the stellar sales of the game, and the many people that liked it a great deal.
I understand your complaints but you're making it sound like they made the worst game ever, when they did nothing of the sort.

Fair enough -- I shouldn't say all 3d medieval RPGs are "copycats" of Oblivion, since Oblivion was far from the first. (The first one I remember that I really loved was Might and Magic VI -- for its day, it was incredible!)
It might have been better to say "of the other 3D medieval themed RPGs, some do it well like The Witcher..." etc. No slight on The Witcher intended. I did intend slight on Gothic. ;-)
