You people need to appreciate this game... to few people know about this game and how awesome it if going to be...
This is going to be the most amazing Total War yet...

Every Total War game so far has been absolutely awesome. Empire is looking like keeping up the track record, and then some.
Another interesting thing about Total War games is that they have gone: revolution, evolution, revolution, evolution - and Empire looks set to be another full blown revolution for the series.
It's really good to see a developer that, even after four full titles and several expansions that are all basically the same thing, is still devoted to improving and refining as much as they possibly can - and as much as the technology possibly can.
man i love TW games. all of them. this is going to be sweet, or should be unless CA do something horribly wrong...
like someone else said above i wish they would show the land battles too (although the ships do look right purdy) as they will be the meat of the battles i expect.
i was stoked about a game called (i think) imperial glory, which was essentially a game very similar to TW but in the napoleonic imperial era. i love that period in history, but the game was not all i hoped. fingers crossed for this one!

have CA ever let us down? I can't recall ever being dissapointed by one of their games, it's like MFSA said. They always manage to do something unique or distinctive that makes each game amazing.

you're right, everything from shogun to medieval 2 has been sweet. long live CA.
i wasn't too keen on spartan total warrior - but being for consoles not pc i will let them off that one ;)
I will buy it. Will most certainly like it a LOT.
But I will not even do 1 RTS battle. Not even 1. So most peoples, including the devs, would not even remotedly experience the same type of game as I do. Who cares? We all enjoy the same game.
I just hope they find a way to make it better than Medieval Total War 1; on a GBT basic. Cause the other versions where more complex, but by no means better.

as you say we all enjoy the games, and it doesnt matter how as long as we enjoy them, but im just curious as to why you don't like to fight the battles?
sure i simulate some, but i love to fight the bigger ones and see all my troops and command them around the field etc
I'll hold off. I'm very interested in the time period and the subject matter but I'm not very happy with the gradual slide towards clickfest gameplay that the Total War series has taken since the first Medieval: Total War. I found that both Rome and Medieval II required extensive modding to get the unit speeds, morale levels, and attack and defence values to where they should be. The vanilla versions of both games are far too fast, cavalry and archers are far too powerful and units break and flee when they shouldn't. Secondly, the tactical AI in Shogun and Medieval was decent. The tac AI in Rome and MII is pretty much absent. You have to be a complete 'tard to lose a battle to the AI unless you're outnumbered 20:1 or completely outclassed in unit quality.
I really really want this. Naval battles and (hopefully) much better battle AI will be sweet.
It's time for some big changes; I felt MII:TW wasn't quite good enough, compared to Rome. Still a damned good game compared to anything else, tho.

As Shogun is my favorite TW I agree with you and I am not happy with the gameplay changes they made. As you pointed out the realtime combat feels more like a click fest while to me the turnbased element has increasingly become a frustrating slog, the 2d maps of the first two games were simple but much more fun. The units have increasingly veered from standard army types (heavy infantry, conscript infantry, shock troops etc.) to more exotic, making the combat more of a cluster **** Hopefully Empire would reverse this trend as there is nothing too exotic about Fusuliers, Line Infantry, Grenadiers and Jagers or Dragoons, Cossacks, Hussars and Polish Lancers, I can't really think of them adding anything really weird.
Also does anyone find the naval battle screenshots unimpressive? They look like toy ships in some kids bath, not man-of-war's out on the sea. I only like the 1st one, but in the others the ocean is too reflective and too unwavy.
The nature of the combat depicted in the screens gives me pause as well. Each one looks like a chaotic melee. Where are the formations? Why are none of the ships in line? Why does it look as though the wind doesn't seem to paly a factor? The ships are pointing in all directions, all flying far too much sail (royals, jibs, and spinnakers out for no reason other than it looks impressive). I hope it's just that they chose screens depicting action right after one squadron with the weather guage closed and broke the other's line, but I suspect that's not the case.bogaty
They probably didn't think about those thinkg when they post those screens
