This has probably been up on the forums elsewhere or here too but is anyone else also getting annoyed with the long load times to start new battles, main menu, or to just changing resolution? Takes pretty damn long that it puts me off, was only able to finish the Land Battle tutorial :(.

I know it's a demo and all, but shuldn't be any long load times, the game doesn't look like it needs to process alot.

Its probably the #1 complain in the official Total War forums. Expect it to be fixed either at retail or a patch afterwards.

I didn't find the loading that slow. Its a total war game. Look at Medieval 2 when it came out, loading times ranged to about 30 seconds per battle. Empire is about on par with that.

It'll be fixed.

Now, if only they'll make the engine to ACTUALLY USE MORE THAN ONE FREAKIN' CORE, it would be great.

I don't know how top of the line your PC is but mine isn't and it takes from 50 seconds to 1 minute and 20 seconds to load a battle, 1680x1050, maxed out 16xAF, 2xAA.

I have load times of about 2 min...not that bad. Just plug in my iPod for a sec and its fine...the only problem this would have is during multiplayer, and since you can't do it in the demo, and this will probly be fixed when it hits Steam/Retail, it shouldn't be an issue at all.

Medieval 2 takes between 10 and 30 seconds. Empire takes upwards of 3-5 minutes. It's ridiculous. And I completely agree that it should be dual core optimized. I have no idea why it isn't.

are you guys serious? I just timed the loading for the land battle in the demo. I got 36 seconds! I don't have top of the line by any means either. 4-5 minutes is rediculous! I feel sorry for you.

Id say it has something to do with drivers since my computer isn't very new either, but I have the newest ones for my 7800 gtx. Whatever the case I'm sure it'll be fixed soon after release.

My load times are about 2minutes (MTW was less than 12seconds). I almost feel like getting out a book to read while I'm waiting.

Thanks Man! Sadly It only helped cut off a few seconds on loading maps.

But it made the start up a hell allot faster, it always took a few seconds (10-15sec) at that copyright screen now it only last 3-4sec tops.

Much Appreciated ;)

For me, I have Company of Heroes settings maxed out, an a mod that added 400mbs of information to load into the game almost everytime I load a map, largest maps can take almost a minute to load with all that on Company of Heroes which is one of the most graphic intensive RTS games on the market still. Yet this game takes 2-6x longer than that to load. Tutorials taking up to 1+ minutes.

Didn't work at all for me. I installed Python 3.0.1 and I run the program. It says "Unpacking Press Any Key To Continue...." I hit enter and the thing closes.

He had like two different Unpacking tools, wasn't sure if both was the same or not but this one looked the easiest one.:P

This is the one that worked for me.

Ok, after almost killing myself figuring out exactly what to do, here is the easiest way to unpack the demo files.

Download and unzip the EasyUnpacker.zip file and follow the README instructions.

Download either from here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/201357621/EasyUnpacker.zip
or from this link.

Readme:

[QUOTE="ewq123"]First off:
All credit for finding out how to do this goes to alpaca and ColdFire.
I am using Windows Vista 64-bit.

1. Go to http://www.python.org/download/ and download Python 3.0.1 and install it
2. Place the emp_unpacker.py and unpack.bat in the "Steam/steamapps/common/empire total war demo/data" directory
3. Run unpack.bat, all the raw files will be placed in the directory "Steam/steamapps/common/empire total war demo/data/unpacked"

Have fun!

ewq123 ewq123

-

Then just Copy/Paste everything from Unpacked to the C:/.../.../empire total war demo/data, then place the demo1.pack to the unpacked folder or whatever.

It never really did improved my Battle loading times still around 30-40sec but I did get a Faster Demo Startup then before.

Yeah, I followed the directions to the letter. It doesn't create an unpacked folder. It just closes as soon as I hit a key.

hmm.. Not sure then, Try to Verify Game Cache maybe a File is missing and its not unpacking right?

Though it's quite pointless to unpack for faster loading times, but it does give to access to mod the game ( Reskin the Game UI, reskin/add more ships/Units etc.) 8)

Nah, the only file it's looking for is Demo1.pack and the game runs fine. Thanks though.
