Empire Total War Update 1.6 Is Out

I dont have the game installed currently. Performance was too bad. Any improvement in that regard? Here is what Steam said about the update:

"Update 1.6 for the award winning Empire: Total War is available today. The update introduces a large number of revisions to the Artificial Intelligence in real time battles. Amongst many other improvements, the Battle A.I. now maintains its lines more rigorously, has better army movement and engages in melee more tactically. It is also better at protecting its own advance and engaging opponents with flanking attacks."

So, AI is better, what about performance? I really want to start playing the game. Would be a good get away if it performed well. My Specs:

Q6600 @ 3.2GHz

GTX 260 Core 216

4GB RAM

Windows 7 Pro 64 Bit

I just played a battle then, the AI kept running away but they did form a line much better and also tried to flank quite a lot, still the pathing is pretty poor. I am getting good performance though.V4LENT1NE

You saying that they are trying to implement the better coding AIof Napoleon into Empire? If so, I take everything back about them. I really thought they would forget Empire as a lost cause, thus refused to buy Napoleon.

They had originally promised to release the "new AI" from NTW for ETW when NTW was initially released. Shockingly, they didn't deliver on their promise. Strategic and diplomatic AI are both still busted beyond all hope.

No. They said 1.5 would be the last major update involving any bug fixes and any future patches would be minor in nature and would be things like unit reskins, grammar corrections, and the like.

How big is this patch? I loaded Steam up, but nothing happened in the download area?

Edit: never mind. Steam just did it. Man it took it's sweet time. 5 minutes and it finally woke up to the fact I have the game. Must be a bug in the beta UI, better go and report it.

I can't believe such a respected game company would release such trash. Try out Supreme Commander 2 there are no bugs and it runs FLAWLESSLY on my comp which is considerably worse then yours.coolmonkeykid

im not impressed at all. ETW was the worst TW game to date ... i dont think anyone ever finished a campaign without at least one bug or crash forcing them to load to an earlier save hoping it wouldnt replicate again : \ And where are teh mp campaigns that we were promised from day one. I never got that and thats why i bought the game.... they wont be getting any $$ from me from now on. I gave up on total war games on Empire.ColdfireTrilogy

Actually I would say SupCom2 is more of piece of trash within its series than ETW is within the TW series.

I mean we got a buggy game but at least it was a buggy Total War game and not a generic my-first-RTS kiddie game.

I don't play on consoles and I can manage my PC just fine, been doing it for the last 16 years, before acting all ignorant and prick like with useless comments, maybe you should check the official forums.

The game can't have any problems right? it's perfect, it didn't even need a single patch that's how good it was./sarcasm

And of course you wouldn't look there, why would you, it would show how wrong you are (most threads are CTD, they can't even play the game, I at least can play a few minutes).

I'll try again with the darth mod the next time I install it, but that's mostly for AI, it won't do much to the game.

Empire was a failure. It took them over a year just to get it where it was supposed to be at release. I dropped the game early on and have no desire to reinstall it. DarKre

Empire has been playable for me since release and I only encountered a few CTD. SupCom2 works fine, but it is SupCom only in name.
