Empire Total war, whats the problem?

Hey guys hows it going, this game still runs fairly crappy on my computer i have the following specs

geforce 295

4gigs ram

2.5 quad core

XP professional

don't really know what can be making this game lag besides the OS any suggestions or add ons? thanks.

Have you patched it up? Mine ran crappy at first, but once I updated it... I get amazing performance, even with everything maxed (apart from large sea battles)... and my PC is nowhere near yours...
