I know a lot of people that quit WoW for LOTR and with warhammer online comming out later this year blizz is obviously on a panic mode with all those BC ads and now offering freeBC trial. so what do YOU think? can WoW survive?

Warhammer has been pushed back to Spring 2008. Age of Conan might still make a dent though - due 30th October.
I think with WoW TBC gave them a second chance to put the game back on course. They made some tweaks but it's still all about raiding and faction grinding.

I sure hope not:D

My bitter response as a MMORPG veteran:Â The Death of WoW would be wonderful, hopefully they will move to a more complex game and enjoy it, so MMORPG devlepers get it out of their heads that they "Must design a MMORPG for someone with an IQ of 50 or lower."
My analysis: But WoW ain't going to die anytime soon, maybe it finally hit past its prime. I suspected as much when I heard they were going to do an expansion. WoW players are newer MMORPG players, they think an expansion means that it expands upon game play, well in the MMORPG world, they don't mean that. They mean they expand upon the game time it takes to complete the game.Â
My realistic hopes: So WoW is probably past its prime, but it ain't dying yet. Hell, it may not die for a really really long time, it's like the sesame street for MMORPGs. It teaches MMORPG basics for the newer MMORPG player and this market could sure and hell use the WoW training wheels to help create more MMORPG players. Hopefully WoW fans who leave WoW will still want to play other MMORPGs, if that is the case, then WoW really has done something great for the MMORPG market.
The answer: But is this the end of WoW? Nope, if SWG: NGE is still alive, then WoW has another 30 years of life in it .

 Lol, whatever you say...
Do you really think THAT many people left WoW? I haven't noticed a drop in population on any of the servers I play on. LoTR doesn't have a chance against WoW in the long run. And with Mythic (lol) running the Warhammer show, I think that'll go the way of DaoC soon after launch. Conan is the only MMO on the horizon I am looking forward to...
world of warcraft had in june 2006 52% of the mmorpg market share according to mmogchart - that's every single other major mmorpg combined still not adding up to rival world of warcraft - according to the site, at least - and the wow subscriber base has increased by over a million since then
so no, the end of wow? no - the decline of wow, probably... with all the mmorpgs coming out, many based on major licenses like star trek, world of darkness, firefly, warhammer, warhammer 40k - not to mention the recently released lord of the rings online, competition is going to become much more difficult
but i think the utter worst case scenario is the population growth stops, and maybe total population will drop a little.. but we're talking about eight million subscribers here, the game only needs 2-4% of that to stay in the black
so while the decline of wow is probably coming, the end of wow is a decade off, or more, probably
Why are you fools looking forward to Warhammer online? Its just another WoW with better PvP, but the same godforsaken I-am-a-loser-grind.

Age of Conan is the game with potential. no question. However the game is rated 18+ due to the sexuality and violance so all the WoW kiddies wont be playing that.
Â
I heard that funcom might incorporate a rape mechanic that will allow the barbarian characters to rape, like in Robert E Howards work.

Age of Conan FTW :) And yes WoW is still a grind fest albeit a very pretty one!

It still LIVES!!! Shoot that thing and put it out of our misery now! and Ya UR right if NGE still survivies then WoW has got many years left in it.

There's zero percent chance that WoW will die within the next few years, even. You can consider SWG if you want, but enjoyment is a personal preference, and people may enjoy the way it turned out, however few they are..
But the real proof is in Everquest.. AO died, but it took a LONG.. LONG time. EQ was accepted way worse than WoW.. Like, literally night and day.. I remember when EQ first came out, everyone loved it, then a giant switch to everyone hating it, then it became like a bad word.. Now it's just so old, nobody really knows, talks about it, or plays.. Yet there's still thousands apon thousands of people playing it all the time, after all these years, and it's still extremely popular, even though nobody can seem to find anyone who actually plays it.. :p (maybe they're all bots!)Â
If EQ ain't dead yet.. WoW has many, many years to go guaranteedÂ

Though I want an extermly realistic MMORPG with permadeath, mass atrocities, slavery, and what not, because I think it would be an interesting social experiement, but......
Â
1-Â That is probably a really bad Idea.
2- I believe the AoC devs said no nudity (but they could have changed their minds with regard to nudity).
3- Funcom would have to be insane to implement something such as that. No matter how true to Howard's dark works that mechanic would be...

I say SWG: NGE because it is a resounding failure in that it litterally pissed off most of its playerbase with callous indifference to them. Other MMORPGs slumped because their devs strayed away from the vision. SWG: NGE not only strayed away from the vision but basically told its customers "You're an acceptable loss, we want WoW numbers n00b!"Â
