anyhoo, i've tidied it up it up a lot, i have 51gb free atm. and i have the orange box!

but i dont want my pc to crash. ive ordered a 500gb hdd but its the weekend, so no post and i really dont want to wait until monday to play it if it even arrives then so id like to know if id be pushing it by installing the orange box now.

it takes up 20gb apparently.

well it shld be ok

i have like an external 500gb then external 750gb and 2 internal drives

160 with xp and 250gb with other stuff and games

so i think u shld upgrade to 500 and then put it on that

i also have that on my 500 gb so it wld be not worth taking the chance

but i dnt think it wld crash if 51 gb is empty

afaik the HL2 original requires 4.5GB and EP1,EP2 both require 20GB. Don't know about those TF2 stuff and portal stuff

TF2 - 6.7BGB +

Portal(1.6GB) +

HL2(864MB) +

HL2: ep1(2.2GB) +

HL2:ep2(5.2GB) +

Peggle Extreme(20MB)

Total: ~16.5GB.

These values are estimated, keep in mind that I have TF2 installed and since some files are shared I do not need to re-download them.

For example I have TF2 installed and if I wanted to install portal I would need 1.6GB of HDD space, but if I install Portal on its own (no other game installed) I would need around 4GB or so of space.

That is because Portal and TF2 are like mods of HL2, so many core parts of the gameplay are needed. Even the process name for TF2 is HL2.exe

The source engine is labeled hl2.exe as its process name. When you install any part of the Orange Box, Half Life 2 is partially downloaded because that part is the engine, Steam just thought it'd be stupid if the engine was installed every single time a source game was installed, so they centralized it. Thats what I think, is the reason the space varies depending which ones you install. Pretty much all games other than the original Half Life 2 is mods of HL2 because they all use part of Half Life 2 to run.
