So, now that I finally picked up all the DLC for New Vegas, I've reinstalled, and I'm gonna try to get back into it. For now, I'd like to avoid significant gameplay-altering mods, unless they're just general improvements, rather than serious system changes. But, what do you guys recommend for graphics stuff? Gonna get NMC textures, for sure, along with Fellout and Nevada Skies, but what else should I get? Also, I've heard lots of vague talk about how great Project Nevada is, and it's the #1 most endorsed file on the Nexus. So, what  is  it, exactly?

Project Nevada is a must. It adds some good elements like a grenade hotkey, a bunch of gameplay fixes and balances, and the ability to sprint. Dynamic cross hair, and a bunch of other stuff the nexus page will be able to describe much better than me. It's not really graphics related though.

NMC's texture mod

Nevada Skies

EVE (Essential Visual Enhancements)

Not Graphics related:

New Vegas Bounties (I and II) and I got a mod that made casinos more populated.

These are personally what I use but there may be other great mods out there.

Get and use Nexus Mod Manager.

I wish the fallout games had Steam Workshop.

Go to the Nexus mod page, set up an account (you can choose a free account, which is way down at the bottom of the page if I remember correctly), and then hit "install NMM" which is at the top of most of their pages I think.  Then look for mod's that allow you to "download NMM" or download using the mod manager, as opposed to downloading manually.  Once you've downloaded them (the mod manager should open automatically), you then have to activate them.  There's two tabs at the top of the mod manager, click on the second one (plug-in's I think),then there will be a bunch of categories and you need to look for ones with numbers next to them (that's how many mods you've got in that category).  Then double click on the category title and it will display the mod's, then at the left of the screen click the icon to activate the mod.  If you don't like the mod or if it causes crashes etc, you can then hit the other icon to de-activate it.

Weapon animation Replacer.
It allows you to choose how people carry and aim weapons such as Handguns, shotguns, assult rifles and rifles.
In my opinion this kind of Idle animation when you have the weapon drawn and having them raise their arm durring a hipshot.

Is alot better then this actually "hipshot" that's followed with them from Fallout 3. And that is just one of four types of Idle and Aiming animations you can get with handguns. Pretty much the first thing I download if I reinstall the game.

Get some higher resolution textures, bethesda games often have poor textures.

Some, I'm looking at Nevada skies, and the info seems a bit confusing. Does it work with Fellout? Anything in particular you need to do to make it work with Fellout? Should I just use one or the other?

I'm pretty sure that as long as fellout is after nevada skies in the load order it should work.

Sweet. Do you use Nevada Skies? Which one should I get? URWLified, or no?

I suggest using ELECTRO CITY in conjunction with Nevada Skies to compensate for the darker nights. In addition to UMC's texture pack I would play with Poco Bueno's pack which replaces a lot of interior and exterior items with same but higher quality ones textures AND the DCE - Detail Faces mod which increases the quality of all faces in the game.

I'm not telling you my own load order though, that's a secret lol. All I can say is I mostly use mods to enhance vanilla and to add restored content such as the 188 Trading Outpost Restored, New Vegas Strip restored and to fix all the bugs.

Edit: typo.

Okay, so now I'm getting confused with a bunch of different EXEs. I've got the default launch option, through steam. And I've got the 4GBenabled launcher, which I've been using because NMC textures said I should, and now I'm fixing to install NVSE, so I can use more advanced mods, and it's got its own launcher, too. But, it says something about being able to enable steam community, and then being able to launch the game through Steam like normal.

So.... which launcher should I be using?

Also, I just installed EVE with the Nexus Mod Manager, and it's showing three different .esp files in the load order now. EVE FNV - ALL DLC, EVE FNV - NO DLC, and EVE FNV - NO GRA. Do I need all of those active? The "all DLC" and "no DLC" ones seem to contradict each other, at least in name. So I have a feeling I need to disable something.

Yeah. If you have all of the DLC, select that one. If you don't select the no DLC. GRA is gun runner's arsenal. In other words, if you bought the Ultimate edition the All DLC is the only one you should have selected. As for EXE's get the 4gb patch that is NVSE friendly and use that. To get it to work through steam you have to go to the game properties in steam and change the target to that exe.

Mmk. That explains the EVE issue. As for the 4gb/NVSE, I went back to the NVSE page, and found the spot in the FAQ where it linked to the version of 4gbenabler to use, and it sent me right back to the one I have. I looked through the instructions on that again, and it looks like I have to add about a billion command lines to the shortcut target. :?

Isn't there some way to make the game large address aware without using a whole new EXE? Some way to alter the original one, or a shortcut?

You don't need to use the in-steam shortcut to get the steam in game overlay. I don't and it works fine for me. I just use the 4GB NVSE exe and everything works.

Yeah, that's what I've been doing, but now I'm trying to get NVSE involved, and it just looks like a pain in the ass to make it work with the 4GB enabler. Was hoping there was a way to alter a regular exe to force large address aware, so that I could do that to the NVSE launcher exe.

Never really played it with an ENB mod or anything. IMO, most of them seem to remove the games' post-apocalyptic atmosphere.

I did use alot of texture overhauls for it though.

There's an alternate 4gb .exe that's compatible with NVSE, there is a link to it in the NVSE description. Just make a shortcut to the new exe file on your desktop, rename it and change the icon to the default New Vegas launcher icon.

Get some animation fixes and retextures, and definitely get Imaginator. It lets you change the colors, saturation, depth of field, and much more. And if you paly it right, you can get it to look really good without any drop in FPS

I clicked that link, and it took me to the 4gb .exe that I already have, along with some overly complicated-looking instructions for adding a whole mess of extra tags to the shortcut target. I feel like I'm missing something. If there is just an .exe to download, which will launch the game with 4gb enabled, and also run NVSE, could you point me toward that?

I just purchased new vegas ultimate edition off steam for $5, do I just need to get the 4gb exe patch to use the graphics mods?
