i'm having trouble getting my ethernet cord to stay in its slot on another system. is there something that can connect this bad ethernet cord to something so that i can stick that in there without having to move it, and have a new and smaller ethernet cord come out of that? like a little adapter thing, kind of like an extension cord? without slowing down the connection at all?

Are you sure the plastic snap that holds it in place isn't just bent or broken?

the only thing i can think of is a coupler which connects two cords together but you will need another cord so just buy a new one to solve the problem

yes, that thing is broken off. it stays in my pc but not my 360, i guess the angle? anwyas, what is this coupler?

i cant just get a new cord, it goes from one room around the house thru some celings thru my window into my room, that would be too much work. i rather put it in this "coupler" and have that stay in, maybe with tape, and use the ethernet the xbox came with to go from my router either to my pc or xbox. i wont loose any speed will i? how much is a coupler?

just buy a new cable online for cheap... or, have you thought of turning the cable around? put the bad end into your switch / router, and the good end in your 360. A coupler would require another cable, and wouldn't solve the problem.

just tape the cord in...like plug it in then pull the cord flat against the machine and tape it.

The best way to fix this would be to replace the busted end. You'll need an RJ-45 end, a pair of snips and a crimper. First snip off the bad end and then cut back about an inch of the jacket, exposing the eight individual wires inside. Now arrange them in the proper pin-out order (usually white/orange orange white/green blue white/blue green white/brown brown) and slide them into the new end, make sure the jacket gets in there at the back of the end. Crimp it down and you're set. For more info/instruction do a Google search on making an ehternet/cat-5 cable.

agreed, if that is to much work, just get a coupler as stated above, a couple is just a female to female adapter alowing you to plug a cable into each end, allowing you to essentially make an extension, but another cable will have to be purchased on top of the coupler.

Yeah, the first few times sucks. Now I have to do it at work and it's like second nature. It is his best possible solution though, running a whole new cable would suck and the coupler still doesn't address the issue that the end is broken.
