Each month I find myself becoming comfortable with the idea of being strictly a PC gamer(I miss EA's NHL series). The past couple of months I've been playing some MMORPGs. Rift and The Old Republic have been good experiences; but I decided to activate an 6.5 year old EVE account to actually give it a second try. The last time I played this game was in my first couple of years in college and I did not have the attention span for it. What's been making my experience better on the platform are "you people". I think the maturity in almost any game is unparallel. Not to mention my co-worker came along with me to play EVE!

You've probably heard this many times before but EVE Online is a niche game. It seems like you would need a degree majoring in this game to actually learn how to play! I think our first few hours(and sometimes even now) we find ourselves in EVE Online cursing over Team Speak. But it keeps up so engaged because we're intrigued by the games complexity. Not to mention it is beautiful to look at. It has so much detail in gameplay that it's ridiculous and sometimes a bit overwhelming.

The combat is also interesting enough. I will admit that the visual appeal of attacking enemies might lack for some new players since it is much slower than most current MMORPGs. But if you're really looking for a sanbox MMO, this one definitely has plenty of alternatives to what you are usually use to. I found it very interesting that a player can train in Leadership skills that provide his fleet(aka party) bonuses in combat. And imagine there being several different skills that just effect how you trade alone as oppose to just trade skills. The skill system not only allows you to tweak the core of your gameplay but also it allows you to build "around" your foundation. So pretty much you are playing how you want to play.

Of course the biggest appeal to EVE Online is the PvP combat which I haven't experience yet and quite frankly I think I'm not ready. With all this said the game is indeed about a huge risk and reward(or penalty). Even in PvE you might destroy a narcotics depot and have a chance to loot the drugs left behind. It might be good to sell but once you place it in your inventory, you risk attracting local police authorities. Also, if your ship is destroyed than all that hard work is gone for good.

I haven't seen what all this game can offer. But even as a casual gamer I find myself being able to enjoy this experience. One thing I truely like is being able to train my skills in a queue system. So while I log off they're still leveling up. There might be days where I don't even log into play but just to train skills. But I will admit that it's definitely not everyone game.

An Xbox 360 is worth owning for the EA NHL series alone :P
