I've played so many MMORPGs, but you'll never forget your first. Mine was Asheron's Call. Since I've left World of Warcraft around the launch of BC, I've been looking for a game with a sense of exploration. Maybe not similar to Asheron's Call; I'm just looking for a game which will still give me surprises once you reach the level cap. I've never been a big raider, or serious about PvP. The one thing I liked a lot of about Asheron's Call was the wilderness itself. There was always this fine line of "safety" and and danger.

Based on player population, open-ended gameplay, and the scope of the game EVE Online seems to be perfect. I've played when I was younger but I'm pretty sure you all know how that turned out considering first impressions. The other game is Vanguard which I also tried after leaving World of Warcraft, but there were to many problems with it. I also hear the population is pretty low(like Asheron's Call possibly). Age of Conan seems to be the complete opposite of what I am looking for, but the games looks beauitful(and it's $9.99 brand new at Gamestop). Any suggestions?

hmmm tough call, both are good games. Let me give you a cynical summary of each one, though

EVE. An innovative MMO unlike any you have experienced that is often rooted in long periods of dull moments more often than it is not.

Conan. Likely the most exciting fantasy-based MMO due to an excellent combat system and lore, it is a dying game full of quirky bugs and glitches

I enjoyed EVE a lot more. Its a more mature, steady MMO with an AMAZING community. Its is not for noobs, though, nor the impatient. Some of the latter skills can take weeks, even months, to train (you dont grind for XP, things have a set period of time to train/learn). Its just awesome, and while I never got too far in terms of ships, tech, and whotnot I heard the "end game" is extremely awesome with cool space battles. Getting there, however, is pretty boring at times.

Eve has survived for years and grown stronger while Conan is bleeding out in a back alley gutter, alone and unmissed.

I will give Funcom credit for sticking to their guns- they are down to 4 servers and have an expansion pack nearing release.

Conan if you want to retain some semblance of a normal life, EVE if you are happy to give it all up for one game. EVE is insanely addictive.

I've tried trials for both. I couldn't even bear playing AoC because everything about it just felt sloppy.

EVE Online is not my type of game but I'd say it definitely seemed like a better game than AoC in execution if not in concept. I think my problem with EVE, from the little time I played with it, is that most of the gameplay seems to revolve around preparation for PvP or something rather than actually doing anything interesting.

I would go with EVE, everything else right now seems like a WoW clone.

I know! I want to get into EVE Online but at the sametime I'm unsure. I liked Lord of the Rings Online but it lost it's appeal because to an extent it felt like play World of Warcraft. If it wasn't for the storyline and Turbine's credentials(excludings AC2) I wouldn't had any interest in it. I was really hoping for Vanguard to take off. But its early release and the mess that followed turned me off. I stayed away from WAR and AoC because of the things I heard. I haven't seen any other MMORPG that's peaked my interest. It seems like 2011 is the year of Final Fantasy XIV and The Old Republic as far as ambition goes. :P

Well, the main question is whether you like a space setting or a more classic fantasy setting.

I like EVE, but it seems like a game that is very time consuming; I will admit my extent of EVE knowledge is playing the trial a few times, though. I like a space setting, but my bottom line is that this game just seems too involved and time consuming.

Age of Conan has your classic fantasy feel with swords, bows, etc. I personally really like this game, especially if you're a melee player because the combat feels more involved. Plus, the graphics of this game are beautiful. Plus, with all the patches that are out and are coming out, the game is just getting better.

Just mainly depends on how you like your game setting and if you have a lot of time to put into it. Oh, and one more plus is that EVE is very interesting with how much influence the player community itself has on the game. Truly, you should play the trial of both games and just decide which you prefer.

EVE is amazing. The only true persistent virtual world; it is like nothing else. However even if you can cope just fine with its learning curve, it is a very very grueling game, and an acquired taste. As for AoC, I became bored of it rather quickly, which was odd. EVE maintained my interest, and I adore it for what it achieves, but its not a game I can invest myself into; too much commitment involved.

I'd say Eve but only if you are patient enough to play it. The learning curve is very very high, but after some time you'll realise that you have unlimited playstyles to enjoy the game.

I play Eve for almost 2 years but not always intensly. For example right now university is very tight so I'm just trading and making money. Yes I'm looking at a lot of numbers and hauling stuff over and over but in the end it is a different kind of PVP as the economy of Eve depends solely on the community. It makes you think, evaulate, take risks win and lose. For me it's more fun than grinding for the next epic sword.

If you prefer a more straight forward game (I'm telling this because I haven't played AOC) get Champions Online. It's fairly interesting and an enjoyable game but it won't keep you hooked for long.

EVE is pretty unique and AoC from what I have read and played is pretty generic. Personally I don't think I could play EVE to the extent it requires to have fun, but with a little bit of time (I would say a month) you get to a point where you start doing some really cool stuff (PVP). Overall two different games, two different types of play style.

definetly AOC , now its amazing game and from score of 7 it can easyli go 9 now , cant regret my resub , funcom did amazing work reviving the game !

eve is bit over rated and its more of an rts than rpg ... it takes A LOT time to set in , to teach ur avatar to drive normal ship you need atleast 4 months of training ... then you can start game :)

I would say eve

Also if you do start with EVE i have a few suggestions i would like to mention...

1. Dont trust anyone

2a. Decide what you want to do at the start! (mining?, pvp?, Missions?, Trading?, Cargo moving, crafting, piracy?

2b. Then get EVEMON and follow the instructions there. Decide upon a ship and so on and then tell it "best way to train to become good at using said ship or skills) I would recommend that you ask in newbie chat to get help on this part)

3. If you want to pvp join Red vs Blue (if you ask in newbie chat im sure someone will help you)

4. Remember Eve is a game that take a while to learn and a while to get the skills required to take part in the huge things going on in EVE.

5. Dont trust anyone... Use common sense. Scamming is a everyday thing in eve because if you get scammed IT WILL HURT ALOT.

6. Remember to clone your character when you get close to the skill cap.

7. Have fun!

Edit: added crafting, piracy

I am not sure but I think Steam has a 3 week (21 day) trial if you have/use steam.

EVE: If you can get past the rather large learning curve, and the fact that it has it's rather slow moments, it's a sci-fi geek's wet dream. It's a massive space sandbox that players actually have a great deal of control over, more so then any other mmo I've ever played.

AoC: Has so much potential, but I found it buggy and soulless.

Both games are completely different its hard to come up with a fair analysis for the two. All I can say is that EVE is slower then Age of Conan and the obvious genre differences. As for me personally I didn't like EVE at all but really enjoy Age of Conan due to its faster pace and better graphics and lore. Really dig the low fantasy setting as well no gnomes or elves just dudes with swords ripping each others heads off. None of these two games are WOW clones though so at least you can find some reassurance in that.
