Which video card will play Crysis better at a low resolution (1400x900) at maximum settings with original stock clock speeds?

6970 by a small margin.. 570 at higher resolutions though.. but having such a small res is a waste :(

Either card is a waste at that resolution. An overclocked GTX 460 1GB or a 6870 should suffice. I don't think you should consider anything above a GTX 560 Ti or a 6950.

Oiy...man I just HATE people!! 1400x900 is a FINE res, crisp, clear, no problem at all. 640x480 is the ONLY res that is a waste these days. SHEESH! Well, I am partial to the 570 as I own a few of em but (and again, the res is NOT a "waste")...BUT, at that res, either card would do just fine.

The 570 and 6970 are arguably at waste of money at 1920x1080/1200, so they're sure as hell overkill at 1400x900.

TC, like hartsickdiscipl said, you'll be fine with a GTX 460 or 6850/6870. I wouldn't even bother with the 560 Ti or 6950 unless you think you'll be upgrading to a 1920x1080/1200 monitor in the near future.

This overkill argument again?

He VERY SPECIFICALLY SAYS to "play crysis" what is wrong with everyone?:?

A user over here who gamed at 14x9 upgraded to GTX 570 and reported that he still gets dips in crysis.

You guys are right he should get a 6850, how dare he wants to play crysis in 60FPS, he should settle for 40 and accept dips in 20's because it is truly a crime to buy 6970 for 14x9.:roll:

Not to mention with 4xAA the performance will take a furthur dip on ALL the cards.

Anyways to answer the original question. 6970 is better for this scenario not because it's better overall but because AMD is just superior in crysis.

And for information I bought an 8800GTS 640MB in 2007 and I gamed at 1280x960. Everybody shouted "overkill" to me but it wasnt long that there was no more overkill and I was actually benefiting from having such a card at that res.

Yeah, I'm surprised myself at how people say any of those cards are overkill, the game won't even run @ stable 60 FPS the whole time if maxed out with 4x AA so how is it an overkill? besides, it is better for future-proofing your machine. I have a GTX 480 and play @ 1050p yet still, Crysis, Metro, Shogun 2, GTA IV, STALKER, Arma II and other games don't run maxed out @ 60 FPS the whole time. So TC, imo, both of those cards aren't a waste at that res and you'll still get some dips in some games but surely you'll be happy with whichever you pick.

Ok, I think that the best decision is to go for the GTX 570 SC and later on, after it gets a little slow, do the step up program to upgrade to the GTX 580. How does that sound?

I am just kidding, it is just that I have never really owned a gaming rig and I want the best video card for the first experience, I mean, come on, who can play Combat Arms for 3 Years?

Right on! I am running Crysis Max at 1680x1050 with 2 GTX460's OC'd in SLI and I still get the occasional dip. Anyhow, he is future proofed for a little while in case he wants to get a larger display. I would rather have a better card now with an inferior display than the other way around.

I have a GTX570 and run Crysis maxed at 1920x1080 no AA and still drop into the 20s now and then, I have no idea why. It used to do this when I was at 1440x900.
