Ok well i recently visited a local comp store and told the dudes there that i wanted to get a gaming comp that could play crysis, cod4, etc. and so they made up a quote for me of what they recommended for my budget and stuff. so the question is... do you guys think i'll be able to play crysis on like medium/high settings and is this a good price??? (i'm just copying and pasting from the quote he gave me)

Er, everything looks good, and yes even for Crysis, but I'm not sure what your CPU clock speed is (that 533 MHz is the RAM frequency). It's got 4 MB L2 Cache, so it looks like a full Conroe core and not an Allendale, but I'm not sure. Can you get the CPU clock speed?

I'd say change 2 things. Get the 640mb version of the 8800GTS and get the 32bit version of vista.

Hmm... What's the difference between the 32bit version of vista and the 64bit? And how much more expensive is the 640mb card?

Well, I think the drivers for the 32-bit version is more stable, while the 8800 GTS 640 MB version is some $50 more, but is better for higher resolution displays. If you don't use a high-resolution display, the 320 MB version works just fine.

So now that you know the clock speed... what do you think? Hm... I have no idea what to do about vista now haha And like i told the guy at the comp store, i'm prolly not gonna be using a monitor bigger than 19" so the 320mb would work fine for me right?

Yes, 320MB is more than fine. More CPU information, but I'd recommend a faster one.

yeah see that was like basically my only concern about this comp is the clock speed. but i don't know much about comps and some ppl have been saying that this setup will run crysis on like med/high fine so idk it would prolly run better with a faster processor huh?

It's actually 2.13 GHz, but that's just pedantry. Anyway your system looks very good, and you should be able to play Crysis easily.

Argh lol my bad! actually in the quote i think he made the same mistake! he put down "2.13MHz" so that has to have been a typo. Thanks a TON guys for all your help/advice/opinions! now i'm definitely gonna get this comp :D

If that's the case then you're pay $1500 for something that would cost you less than $1000 were you to build it yourself. You fine with that?

you can just go and ask how much money they've included for building all the parts, i mean they've built it

Well, you can order the parts online and build it yourself, it's a very simple task and there are tons of guides on the net. The drawback of this is that if something goes wrong you'll lack the experience to troubleshoot it.

If you go to a computer store to pick out the components and have the guys there assemble them for you, the parts will be more expensive since it's retail price.

So you're looking at:

- $1000: Build it yourself with a risk of something going wrong. The risk is small, but if it happens it will be a pain in the ass to solve for a newcomer. You have full control over your components.

- $1200-1300: Choose parts at a store have them build it. Your comp will guarantee to boot and run. Other than that, it's the same as building one yourself.

- $1500: brand name comps come with full system warranty, if something is wrong, they will fix it or replace it during the 3 or so year of warranty. Upgrading these comps are usually a hassle and might break warranty.

So...make your choice :P

[QUOTE="Erlkoenig"]Does that system include monitor, speaker, and stuff?Forerunner-117

hmm... i don't THINK it comes with the speakers or monitor but it does come with a keyboard and logitech mouse but the monitor is no problem cuz my friend is gonna get me one for free (maybe even a plasma he said :D)

If that's the case then you're pay $1500 for something that would cost you less than $1000 were you to build it yourself. You fine with that?

errr i don't think someone will take 500$ to build his computer parts together

Well see that's the problem!!! I'm like such a comp noob that there's no chance in hell that i could build my own comp without f***ing it up somehow!

ask them how much will they take to build all the computer parts together i'm sure it won't be like more than 20$-50$

sooooo... ur saying i should just buy all the parts on my own and then ask them to build it for me? and btw would i really be spending that much extra money if i bought the comp from them?

oh you're buying a whole already built computer lol i didn't knew that - i'm sure it'll be the same price

ack lol now i'm all nervous. now i think i'm spending like $500 more :( so i need some feedback here! since they are custom-building this PC for me, do you think $1499 sounds right? or would it be better to individually buy all the f***ing parts and try and build it myself lol?

buit yourself no - no way someone will take 500$ to build some freaking parts which take about 2 hours - 50$ top

you can just go and ask how much money they've included for building all the parts, i mean they've built it

Ah ok i think i know what u mean! so ur saying that i shouldn't build it but just ask them how much money they've included in the price for their service to make sure it isn't like $500 right? :)

yes, lol this quoting chain is funny :P

Erlkoenig

Well see the strange thing is that basically this comp would be from your second given option ($1200-1300) but it's costing $1500 so i'm not sure what's up with that...

The specs are fine but I agree that the price is a bit too high. Shop around for a better price using those same specs BUT make sure to ask how much the place charges for assembly BEFORE you tell them your specs since that shouldnt change for the most part.

Like everyone has already said, these specs are fine but you will save a lot of money if you order the parts yourself and have it built for you by someone who knows his stuff.

yeah your paying too much for that comp, if you buy the parts separate off of Newegg.com you should be able to get it all for like $800-$900, and thats the problem with computer noobs theydont know how to build their own and end up paying a hell of a lot more because someone rips them off and they dont know it

Your best bet for a good price and good parts, is to get a friend who knows what he's talking about (or, I'm sure anyone here would gladly help, but I'd ask in the PC hardware forum) to help you pick out parts, then order all the parts online individually from newegg or something. Then, when you get all the parts, take them to OfficeMax. If you bring them all the parts, they'll put it together and give you like a 30-day "it works" warranty for about $50.

Go with 64bit vista. It has good driver support now and with 64 you are able to expand up to 4gigs of ram while 32bit you can only have a max of 2gigs. The system they quoted you with is very nice, but who knows what crysis will require for gpu and cpu but you should be ok. Quickly if you watch crysis vids on gametrailers.com they are making crysis around the quad core cpu and 8800 gpu.

Well, I think the drivers for the 32-bit version is more stable.madrocketeer

Life Lesson #514
Don't listen someone who *thinks* they know, get some RL experiences LOL no offense madrocketeer, but I've been running Vista x64 w/o any issues, and so have many other people, better than my Vista x86 laptop :D Some info I had previously posted

Eh, whatever though, go with whatever you are most comfortable with, that's most important!

k how much does vista 64 bit cost??..Big_Dane

Pretty much the same as 32-bit, around $10 more, at the time I think my OEM version was $4 more than the 32-bit OEM version

I'd keep everything else, but change your CPU to an AMD Athlon X2 6000+ ( 3Ghz per core, two cores, can't go wrong)

If you are willing to do the the research, then go to tomshardware.com. They will help you build a comp (you need to ask on the hardware forums). Newegg.com is probably the best place to shop imo.

I would just wait until the game comes out and see what people are posting about their rigs and the fps they are getting. Now you can make an informed decision about what hardware to choose.
