I just picked up a 500 gb external hard drive and was wondering if you could install games on them instead of your computer to save space. If I did and wanted to play that game would I need the drive connected to the computer at all times desired to play? Thanks.
Yes, you can definitely install games to an external hard drive, but what I'm more concerned about is the slow transfer times that USB 2.0 introduces. My 500GB External HDD only does about 20 mb/s file transfers so I would imagine it would kill the game experience but I'm probably wrong.
If you mobo has an external e-sata port, you can use any external sata HDD. The performance is just like having an internal drive really. No reason to use USB port any more
