I have just bought a GTX 670, and I would like to know how will my pc preform while playing in ultra high settings high-end games.. I have an intel core duo 3.16 GHz, and the reason i didnt get a new i7 or i5 cpu is because If i do so, im gonna have to replace the whole motherboard (nForce 680i SLI).. Is it so necessary to get a new cpu+new Motherboard? or my pc will perform well?

it will probably be fine. but if you want to do something about ur cpu go on ebay say 4-7 months down the line and grab a core 2 quad q8000, q9000 series. that will give you a ncie boost and will last you for many years to come. not having a quad core in the future is going to be like not having an internet connection :P

670 is a waste on a C2D. At the VERY least, look for a cheap (i.e. used) C2Q.

the intel core 2 extreme qx9770. but more realistically (cause core 2 extreme quads still sell for a bloody fortune) i would settle for something like a core 2 quad q9505, 9550, q8500 or anything of a higher number that you can afford. that should last u a long while

Depending on the games you play you will really see a hit.

For example I had the E8400 at 3.6 GHZ and was playing Rift when it came out. I had the same GPU I have now the AMD 5870 and I was having performance issues in the game. I upgraded to the 2600K and have it OC'd to 4.3 ghz. My FPS went up no word of a lie by 30, this will of course vary game to game but it made an extreme difference.

If you are dead set on keeping your current motherboard and CPU maybe you should look at a cheaper GPU. It's likely you will get the same performance because the CPU just won't keep up.

If you live near a microcenter in the US you could sometimes get the i5 2500k $160 + a free motherboard.

easily every game on maximum. the core 2 duo would still work but the quad is required to let the 670 really open up and breath like it should

nope but the stock cpu is still plenty powerful. umm dont suppose u know who made your motherboard. XFX, evga, ASUS, etc. thatd be nice to know cause it appears that certain core 2 quads dont work on some boards

here this will work with all 680sli boardsm (or 680 sli LT)

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-775-CPU-SL9S5-CORE-2-EXTREME-6800-2-93-4M-1066-30-Day-Warranty-/261091545598?pt=CPUs&hash=item3cca44d1fe

and only $85 and on the hole trades blows with a phenom II x4 965 BE

I though that all the CPU's that have "LGA 775" work in my motherboard because my duo E8500 also has "LGA 775" isn't that right? Wow 85?! nice deal i guess.. but Many people do not recommend buying used cpu's.. how do I know if a cpu would work in my 680 sli mobo?

the maer produces a "cpu support list". and this list comprises of all cpu's that it will run and if you need to do any updates to your computer (prior to installtion) in order for them to work. and yes lga 775 is the name of the cpu socket. the physical spot on the motherboard where your cpu meets the motherboard.

finally no new cpu copies exist. not without spending a fortune. and getting somethingh your board might not support

Just spend another $100-$150, get an i5, and ask a friend to help you replace the CPU and mobo. Why you would stick with a 5 year old platform is beyond me.

Should be fine. You don't get much better than Corsair, for PSUs.

You have an unlocked CPU which can easily be overclocked well past 4GHz, but that board does not support multiplier overclocking.

Did you order the board online? If you did, you should be able to call and get a refund before it ships. Then just order a new board. If it's already shipped, or if you got it locally, just use your C2D at first and exchange the board...

Because you bought a cheap board. You bought a good chip that has the ability to OC because of the unlocked multiplier. You bought a motherboard that doesn't give you the ability to OC. Will everything work "yes" but you either went cheap on the board or you overspent on the CPU (and bought the non K version)

Very lackluster 4+1 phase VRM CPU power design, and no cooling on the VRM's. That alone would keep me from buying this board. Also, overclocking this board will require intimate knowledge of the process. You could easily fry other components if you do not know what you are doing...
