I just bought this today on the steam sale and I think it is awesome already. It is a bit more of a sim than other recent Codemaster's games. For example if you crash into another car or cut a corner you will be penalized. I know these penalties bumped me from 8th position to 23rd position in my very first race. You have to drive a very clean race. There is a practice round, qualification round and then the race round starts. The qualification round determines your starting grid position. You can skip the practice and I think you can skip the qualification round too, but not sure where you start then.
I first tried this game with my 360 controller and found it a little difficult to play with it. Then I plugged in my Logitech G27 race wheel and wow what a difference! The game is so much easier on the wheel. If you have a wheel, get this game!
This game does use a menu system similar to DiRT2, which I love. I did notice that some of the AI drivers are a bit finicky, they drive kinda twitchy. I wish I had a video to show you what I am talking about. I don't know if you have played Codemaster's ToCA Race Driver 3, but it reminds me of that game with only F1 cars.
