Im wondering if the fallout series will work on windows xp. If it doesnt work, will it work in compatibility mode? Also, i have a dual core cpu, maybe it will cause problems... Thanks in advance.

I have an okay PC with XP that plays Fallout 2, but even though I have the latest Direct X stuff(besides Direct X10), the installation has this prompt that says I don't and "I need to download DirectX 3d" or something.

It worked on my old computer (also XP-ed) with even older things than this (besides 256 MB ram, this one has 128.)...so I don't know what the problem is with this PC.

I hope I helped a bit.

IIRC you need to do some tricks to get it working. The site NoMutantsAllowed had some tips on how to get it working in XP I did get both games to play in XP, but IIRC Fallout 1 did have some problems now and then (screen goes black until you move your mouse, or something like that... don't remember exactly)

I gota weird graphics bug with Fallout 1 - weird purple pixels all screwing around on my screen like a big gang of purple idiots. But compatability mode learned them to mess with me.

Fallout 2 was fine.

forgot to mention its part of the fallout collection pack. Perhaps the 3 games (fallout 1,2 and tactics) were revised and now work perfectly on xp, because int he system requirements it mentions it should work on windows 98, me, 2000 and xp. By the way, if the original fallout somehow doesnt work, will fallout 2 still be enjoyable, even if i didnt play the first one? Thanks.

I think the major problem was that travel happens too quickly on the world map, so random encounters don't activate as often as the should. I recall some user made patches that fix that... but they tend to introduce runtime errors.

Everything should be found at that site already listed.... http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php
