Someone wrote modding tools for it.

Stuff accomplished so far:

- vehicles no longer chase you from checkpoints. You can run through them and escape much easier.

- different damage model. The game uses a location based damage model for all parts of the body, and it can be modified - torso shots can be more deadly, for example.

- all weapons unlocked, weapon degradation slowed down, items cheaper to buy

- different weapon stats (accuracy, range, damage). Bullet drop and removal of hitscan may be possible.

- more stamina, no malaria

- new assets can be added to the game

Visit this thread, download the tools and start changing stuff as you like. Most of the things listed here can be changed by simply modifying a numerical value. You can find instructions in that thread, it's pretty easy to do. The first two things in my list address the two biggest complaints against the game. Have fun trying other stuff.

Nice. The only real problem I had with the game is the amount of damage that the enemies can take

 Please let there be a mod for no repawning outposts. Atleast no respawn for a long time. I remeber I killed people at an outpost. Then I ran in a cliff valley and they all spawned again. I wasnt even 100 yards away.

Thread seem to indicate that checkpoints respawn because the game forgets you even went to the checkpoint. :(

I guess better late than never but don't see a fix to the instant respawning checkpoints issue.

Ohhhh my gawd... you don't know how long I've wanted this. All those little things that brought down such a great game can now be fixed! I hope more people experiance what a great fps far cry 2 is now. And the graphics still look great for today.

What I don't understand is why mods tools aren't released, or requested more often by the community, as a standard. It seems to me, that more often than not, it's the small developers out there are open to new and fresh ideas - yet companies like Ubisoft, Activision, EA (etc.) feel the work is finalized and done once the Xbox port is complete.

If they actually get rid of the checkpoints, fill out the hollowness of the game I might actually go back and try finishing it.

They're companies layered in bureaucracy and finances, it's all about meeting returns and pleasing shareholders - compared to Valve for instance or other smaller devs as you've said. To Ubisoft and larger companies modding tools is just more time = money with 'no return' profits. The team would have been pushed onto DLC content, post game patch support then once done, shifted onto new projects. So the users who care have to pickup the pieces, I'm sure developers would actually want to tend to their games that they've sunk portions of their lives into creating, if they could.

Only thing that bothers me is that it looks really complicated to set up and may **** with the story so I may play it on the PC and just deal with the bad points again.

I really liked FC2, but these changes will definitely make it better. It's unfortunate that they may not be able to truly fix the respawning guardposts, but I did like the idea mentioned in the thread about randomizing how many spawn there...including having 0 there.

Someone make me a mod so no one is hostile outside of missions unless you attack first. Then I might actually finish the game.

Are you seriously complaining about too much shooting in a shooter?

Just because it's open world doesn't mean it has to come with a RPG baggage.

Far Cry 2 was bad because you shot at the same enemy for the entire game, there was no variation and the enemys just respawned even if you totally trash their checkpoint, drive past it again in 5 minutes and they are all back.

I don't mind the lack of enemy variation- it's far better that they kept that grounded in reality rather than adding in mutants or some nonsense.. But on a few occasions, I drove less than 30 seconds past a checkpoint that I cleared out, mopped up a few remaining soldiers for a mission, turned around and found the guardposts respawned. That was when the game felt a bit broken to me. Had they had dynamic/random-ish respawns (both in actual respawning and in numbers of enemies) to make the world feel a little more alive, the game would've been far better than it was. And as I mentioned earlier, I already thought it was good.

I think the weapon degradation was actually a little generous, so that's not the problem. The problem is that enemies don't suffer from it but somehow their gear is one clip away from exploding in your hands, and if I remember right System Shock 2 had the same issue when taking enemy weapons (and it was so bad they patched it).

Everything else looks great, but I actually like malaria since it added another layer to the surviving and got you to experience the civilian suffering side of things.

Anyways, I'll be sure to check this out. I have the game on PS3, but I recently got a cheap version during the Steam sale and I haven't played it yet, this should give me a reason to.
