Hi, my copy of Far Cry 2 just arrived. Installed it fine, I try and start it and it comes up with this error:

"Please insert the original disc instead of a backup (1000)"

I'm using the original Far Cry 2 dvd, what is going on?

Thanks

Sorry, ran fine for me. Maybe try googling it until someone here posts something more informative. Good luck!

Where did you order it from? Could you have possibly gotten a pirated or bootlegged disk?

Nah it's not pirated, its a real copy. I've been able to get into the game now, but now it's crashing back to the desktop. Furthest I've got in is where you actually get the chance to shoot someone, then I died and it crashed. Since then, its crashed on the drive at the start. Seems to be a very common problem. This is rediculous, you actually buy a game and still doesn't work for ya...sure makes me want to buy games again as apposed to 'acquiring' them.:x But anyway, does anyone know what is causing the problem here and how to fix it.

Cheers,

Chris

it could be your graphics card and a issue with the game... drivers?

so whats your motherboard, whats your gpu and what drivers are you running? then from there id take it to nvidia or ati forums respectively.. i know ive had my share of driver related problems and crashes ( CRYSIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) .. yeah

think it might be your overclock on the cpu or maybee the ram causing your crashes? its always possible, try underclocking to stock and see if the problem is fixed, other than that ive heard somethings with the ati drivers even with the fix, i dno the problems but ive heard their are some.. maybee look into that, and as i mentioned try posting on ATI's forums or even tomshardware? whevever you can find a good community thats very much into the specific cars.. when i had problems nvidia's forums rly helped me.

What sort of DVD-ROM are you using? SecuROM doesn't like writeable drives. Games using it many times won't work if you even have a burner in your computer (even if it's not the drive reading the disc). Kind of seems to depend on the make and model of the drive, and whether or not you have writing software on your computer.
