mmhmmm, thats right, the game is a major fail in my books, unless you are blind or a console fanboy then you dont have an exuse to see the many lies and flaws that have been put into the development of this game by Ubisoft....

1. The player has no shadow.... im sorry but last time I checked, in reality I have a shadow....

2. Trees will be destructable you say Ubi?!?!, not the last time I checked....

3. Vegetaion catches on fire you say Ubi?!?!, grass yes,,,well done Ubi,, u want a medal? one guy on managed to do that as a mod for crysis, how about the other vegetaion Ubi?

4. The cars have realistic and very detailed damge.....HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA

5. I can poke a bullet through my arm and keep running around.....yerrr sure....

6. The amazing dynamic weather system is so advanced and we have great volumetric clouds, yeh last time I checked.....what you did there, can be done in flash 8....

7. You cant add AI, or animals in the editor....fail

8. The textures will be incredibly detailed you say Ubi....ok im sick of this im just gonna show u in pics of epic lolzzzz

And all my settings are on the Highest

Yep, its more the gameplay that ruins it for me though.

-You get a mission only to find out you have to drive to the other end of the fricken map!

-Whilst travelling you come across numerous checkpoints/patrols.

-Minutes later when you are travelling back you find they have all respawned again!

-Side missions are mostly the same thing e.g assasinate, destroy convoy, deliver goods.

It just seems really repetitive, pointless and boring, everyone seems to be out to get you and theres no help apart from the buddies but you only really see them when they revive you. Everyone else seems to enjoy it though, guess its not my cup of tea :P

Ok so clearly you're playing the pirated version of the game seeing that all your screenshots are from the editor which is the only thing that works.

A lot of graphical features in the singleplayer game have not been added into the multiplayer (or editor) version of the game purely to improve performance.

In the singleplayer game you CAN set trees/shrubs/bushes on fire as well as grass. There also is destructible foliage and vegetation interaction. You also are required to remove bullets from your arm, snap bones into place and inject yourself with hypo needles.

The character has no shadow? Seriously? I've never played the game, but how can a game nowadays not have a shadow? (unless you set your graphics to no shadow)

If you're telling the truth, that's really sad.

I'm all for someone having an opinion that Far Cry 2 sucks, but your criticisms are just downright silly, to put it politely. For that matter, some of them aren't even true.

Hmm. I wonder why Ubisoft decided not to add shadow for the character? I'm not saying I won't buy the game for this reason alone. I'm still getting it but did someone fall asleep or get drunk during developement or something? lol. :P

Well, I'm certainly not blind, and I'm certainly not a console fanboy, and yet I completely disagree with you. Imagine that....

In my opinion, Far Cry 2 is an amazing shooter. It has an awesome open world African backdrop, tons of missions to tackle, a very useful buddy system, 200+ diamond briefcases to find, day/night cycle and dynamic weather system that really changes gameplay up, incredible map editor, tons of guns and upgrades, a unique map system and diamond locating system, and it just has a brutal, gritty and survivalist feel to it.

I always see people whine that they want something other then the same old twitch shooter, and here we have something different, and all I'm hearing is hate. I truly don't get people. To be honest, I don't think a large group of people get themselves or what they want. Based on many of the negative comments about Far Cry 2, at least.

Far Cry 2 kicks total ass in my book.

Whatever, TC. To each his own.

This game has either been getting rave reviews or really bad ones.

Seriously, if you're judging a game based on whether the protagonist has a shodow or not is just sad. It's true that the team has promised great graphics, but that latter is not that important compared to gameplay. I've been hearing people have been suffering with the mouse controls and it takes around four to five rounds to kill someone. I've also been hearing that you can't really make any friends: Practically everyone you run into while traveling immediately opens fire on you.

The above make a compelling argument, unlike most of yours. I'm just downright confused whether to purchase this game or not.

He is being nitpicky and whining about silly things in general and then calling people "fanboys" that don't agree with him....its chidish in reality, personally I like the game.

I'm about 4 hours into the game so far and I'm really enjoying it. I don't know about the character shadow. I havent looked, that in itself pretty much illustrates that, for me, it dosent matter. If I can play a game for 4 hours and have a blast without character shadows, it's not that important to me.

No the graphics are not on par with crysis.. but than again neither is any other game out there. Vegetation burn just fine for me in the game (as someone else mentioned, the destructible terrain appears to be limited in the editor). I agree, cars don't have a realistic damage model, but they work, drive well and given the large number of small narrow uneven roads, I think UBISOFT did a great job making the driving game work as well as they did.

It's true you couldnt pull a bullet out of your arm while running in 'real life' but hey, aside from a small handful of exceptions shooters are not realistic, if they were you'd be dead or incapacitated in 1 shot 99% of the time anyways. The fact that have details like that is a cool little detail to me.

My only complaint so far was brought up by Mareak21, the constant 'insta-agro' patrols and checkpoints get really annoying. The best way around this in my (limited) experience is to use the bus system to get to the right part of the map to start with instead of driving halfway across the map. It saves a lot of travel time and a lot of hassles.

Overall the game feels a lot like some kind of GTA in Africa, with less focus on driving and more on gun fights.

Last but not least, I think they did an AWESOME job creating a great atmosphere and setting, and thats speaking as someone who lived and traveled for several years in the southern half of Africa. A lot of the areas look very life like and believable, the accents and slang of some of the NPC's mirrors what you'd hear in South Africa. The local African language used sounds legitimate, the sound of it sounds very real to me (I couldnt tell you the precise language, as far as I can tell it could be one of hundreds of languages spoken through south, central or eastern Africa ).

Based on the time I've had with the game so far, I'd highly recommend it to people who like the open world / sandbox style games.

What a load of lies.

1) Seriously? Who even notices that.

2) Yes trees are destructible.

3) Yes, what should catch of fire, does. Wooden parts on cars catch fire, trees catch fire.

4) K, don't elaborate.

5) That's a lot better than most games...healing your own wounds is more realistic than med-packs and AUTO REGEN.

6) Volumetric clouds in flash 8? Since when was flash 3D.

7) Editor is ONLY multiplayer for now, that's why you can't add AI.

8) Yes, the textures ARE incredibly detailed. I specifically remember the seat infront of me when you take the cab ride in the beginning, the character's faces, are high res textures.

I agree that it is boring and repetitious...

Beautiful ( 16x10 4AA all options maxed...like buttah ) for sure...

Starting fires is fun....but only the first couple of times.

Respawing cancels any sense of achievment and makes getting around even more repetitious.

I didn't really mind the whole healing/map thing...but the diamond thing was retarded.

What happend to good old money...? I could hand a diamond to anyone on this forum and nobody could tell me it's real value..diamonds as big as your thumb could be almost worthless...while a diamond the size of a pea could be priceless.

Cash would be more realistic...yes I know Africa is full of diamonds...but still.

I played for 6 hours and then just gave it to my neighbor...I then bought Dead Space..that should keep me occupied until FO3 arrives Tuesday.-

Don't get me wrong I like open ended games ( Stalker etc ) but this game is just boring.

I fell asleep driving...

True...I'm not saying it's a bad game.... it's just not for me.

But people don't also respawn in real life..or dig bullets out of thier legs and keep running..or find diamonds every few feet with a magical detector.

I don't play games to emulate real life...

I do like open ended games ( Stalker etc ) but not Farcry 2...

My neighbor is really happy though....he loves the game ( I gave it to him....traded it for a couple of rides to grocery store, laundry mat etc )

So it worked out ( it would cost me that much to take a taxi to where I need to go...I'm disabled and can't drive anymore )

Real life can be really boring....Why woud I want to play a game about it ?

well, life is boring too... if you look from the same perspective

Because in real life you can't shoot a gun when and where ever you feel, explore a African Civil War, collect diamonds, heal yourself, and some other things.

Unless you play a lot of games like STALKER and Operation Flashpoint or ArmA, most games have health packs or health regeneration. Ubisoft brought in a different approach to health, although not revolutionary, different. People don't respawn in real life but once they found out a checkpoint is wiped out, then send new soldiers to guard it. Although that could be difficult in only 30 minutes, but possible.

Played the game for about an hour last night and so far have not been as impressed as I thought I would, but still think that it's a great game.

The graphics are not as good as I thought they would be from the review videos. The foliage and shadows are very well done and the character models and weapons are very well detailed, but the far off landscapes and sky don't look that great. I haven't noticed the lack of your own character's shadow, but will check that out later. I still think the graphics are top of the line for the games out there right now (obviously not better than Crysis) and I think it runs with a great framerate at the very high settings on my rig at 1280x1024.

I'm not too fond of some of the physics though. It seems like the plants are made out of a heavy rubber and are close to indestructible. If I throw a grenade in the plants, they just "bounce" around, but don't get affected other than that.I haven't messed with the destructible trees too much yet.

The AI seems to be on par with the original Far Cry, which I always thought was pretty good. They do try to make effective flanks and seem to employ some pretty good tactics instead of just taking cover and staying there.

One thing that I really like is how they make this game seem pretty realistic. There isn't much of a HUD and it also goes away after a few seconds if you haven't pressed reload or weapon switch or something. Also, the crosshair is defaulted to off when you start. Pulling out a map and looking at it or having a GPS tracker that you physically look at instead of going into a seperate menu never takes you out of the game. There are several elements like this and based off of other people's reviews I will come across them a bit later.

All in all, I'm looking very forward to continue playing this game. I think some of the issues that I mentioned will resolve themselves as I push on. I might have been a bit disappointed in this game since it didn't meet my expectations, but I also had very high expectations for it and I think that all in all it will be a very good buy.

Whats so great about an African Civil war ? Petty rivalry based on tribal affilation and the control of the diamond trade.

I see they don't show how the real war is being raged..the atrocities ( arms being hacked off...women raped ) Piles of bones that would put the killing fields of Cambodia to shame.

And there are no regular people walking around ( except for the opening drive..and in safe zones)

Reinforcements are not sent from somewhere....they just appear after a certain time has passed...Poof there they are !

It's just a boring shooter set in Africa....thats it. And once the novelty of running over zebras passes....whats left ?

Starting a fire for the hundreth time ? Killing the same jeep or roadblock time and time again ad nauseum ?

Bah...!!

And collecting diamonds is as bad as collecting coins in Sonic or some other drivel.

Ok so clearly you're playing the pirated version of the game seeing that all your screenshots are from the editor which is the only that works.

A lot of graphical features in the singleplayer game have not been added into the multiplayer (or editor) version of the game purely to improve performance.

In the singleplayer game you CAN set trees/shrubs/bushes on fire as well as grass. There also is destructible foliage and vegetation interaction.

Tobio19

no bud, i just went to EB 8 hours ago and bought it, im in aus u c

It doesn't let you set trees directly on fire. I ran up to a tree and tried to hit it with my flamethrower and it wouldn't set off, but I lit the ground next to it and it started to burn instantly.

These are probably the game breakers.

I really hope that it gets more open-ended REALLY quick. Screw running around a "open-ended" map that has cliffs and mountains a few feet from the roads so you really can't avoid patrols or checkpoints. Character immersion is crap also. You look down and your avatar has no legs/feet. It's like they're there for when you slide, but then you instantly become a floating head with arms.

From the sounds of all of this and reading everyones posts, Far Cry 2 is at best a 50 50 toss up. Either people hate it or they love it, there don't seem to be many inbetweeners.

I won't be able to get my hands on a copy until the 25th, but by the sounds of it and look's of some things, I'm still getting that horrible vibe that Ubisoft has yet again dumped on us with an unfinished game. Ubisoft is KNOWN and PROOVEN for doing this in the past with previous releases (vegas series), Why would they all of a sudden change thier ways? Dev's just don't do that you know, REGARDLESS of even how much negative feedback they get.

The Ubisoft community forum is FULL and I mean packed full of 100% pure hatred, and if you don't believe me go on over and take a look

It look's to me thus far that Ubi has made some broken promises/lies in terms of what was said in thier E3 and intro video.

Seriously though the main problem with any Ubisoft game and I can assure you what WILL be the biggest problem with Far Cry 2 WILL 100% be lack of support and proper fixing from Ubisoft, THIS ALWAYS HAPPEN'S WITH THEM!

By the look's of things the game is already needing a patch in order to fix crashing and other graphical defects. Also I have been told that there is currently NO multi player server running at all. THIS IS NOTHING NEW FOR UBISOFT LADIES AND GENTS!

I don't care if the game sucks, but you're criticising based completely on a graphics point.

That's pathetic.

Dont get mad that you dont get to play online with hundreds of other gamers because you pirated the game.
