Sure.. As long as people admit that it's basically the same game as Far Cry 2 and retroactively make that the people's choice for 2008.
Played it yet? I wouldn't really call them all that similar.Sure.. As long as people admit that it's basically the same game as Far Cry 2 and retroactively make that the people's choice for 2008.

I'm 28 hours into FC3. The structure of the game is almost identical to FC2, which I had over 50 hours invested in. The graphics engine is just a polished version of the same (wind effects were better in FC2). The only thing that I can really point out as different is that the weapon condition isn't a factor in FC3. That and the enemies don't seem to respawn like they did in FC2. The 2 games are built upon the same foundation.
Its a huge improvement over FC 2. If a sequel wins in 2012 then its predecessor has to win as well? Makes zero sense. 2008 had FO 3, Bioshock, GTA 4, MGS 4 to name a few.Sure.. How is it a "huge" improvement? I agree that it's better, but it's not much different. The engine is a polished-up version of the same, the loot system is similar, the safehouses are still there (outposts), the driving is the same. It still has a huge, wide-open game map that cuts you off from visiting certain parts of it until events unlock it. The structure of the side missions is very similar.
Things that are improved from Far Cry 2-
-weapons don't disintegrate after 3 magazines
-enemies don't respawn infinitely at camps
-wildlife is a real factor in the game
-you get to screw a hot native woman if you choose
Things that were better in Far Cry 2-
-more unique game setting
-wind effects were better+more advanced
-wider selection of allies to choose from
I don't honestly expect people to say that FC2 is retroactively GOTY for 2008. I just want them to realize that FC3 is damn close to the same game, and that FC2 was a great game.
It's f*cking amazing. I'm a few hours in and I can't stop playing it. The world feels so...alive. The animal life, plantlife, random dungeons, the fact that it doesn't force the story on you....I've just been exploring the islands for three hours - barely scratched the surface on the story. So far I've come across a WWII japanese fighter jet jungle plane crash, had a rattlesnake bite my arm, have lions attack me, and been eaten by an alligator. And every time an animal attacks you, you feel PRESSURE to kill it. My personal GOTY 1000 percent. chrisrooRHaha sounds like you had a blast. The other day, I had to fight off a family of Komodo Dragons with my bow and arrow + Knife.

couldn't disagree more. i think far cry 3 is a massive improvement over far cry 2. i personally hated fc2.
some fundamental improvements i can think of are no re-spawning guard posts, no jamming weapons, stealth is now finally viable, no eagle eyed enemies spotting you from miles away, the protagonist can run for more than 5 secs without getting exhausted and hes a much more preferable as a character to play than the guy from fc2 who stepped off the plane to africa got caught, left for dead and spends the rest of the game hobbling round with malaria, speaking of which - no malaria, vaas is an excellent antagonist / enemy, 3 has much better voice acting and writing, there are now people you see outside of the village that don't immediately chase you down to the death and it has a more memorable soundtrack and uses audio to better effect than 2. that's just off the top of my head :P
there's a bit too much assassins creed in it for my liking and its no crysis but it's better than fc2 in just about every respect

Hated FC2, love FC3, go figure.
Same happened with Borderlands, I thought the first one was average and 2nd was fantastic.

The other day, I had to fight off a family of Komodo Dragons with my bow and arrow + Knife. :P my post must have given that away, but yea. Maybe the most fun I've had in a free roam game, ever. The guns feel substantial. The weapon customization is amazing. The environments. The graphics. The dialogue - characters you ACTUALLY care about. The vehicles are a blast to drive. The animal life. The sounds - I was playing last night with the volume cranked and music off (**Which is IMO more immersive, the music can be a bit loud at times, and I prefer hearing the simple sounds of the jungle**) and I can hear all kinds of bugs, birds chirping, and lions roaring in the distance. It's all top notch in entertainment value. Massive improvement over FC2. Massive.
no maleria made the game much more enjoyable! Possibly the only thing that made me ragequit and could not continue to play fc2!
2uneek4u
I hated that too, But there is a mod which removes that from the game entirely.
Yeah, malaria in FC2 was annoying. After putting a ton of hours into both FC2 and FC3, I still don't see them as different enough that someone could hate one and love the other.

Your freaking joking right? Far Cry 3 is nothing like Far Cry 2, I am going to assume you havent played the game yet to make a silly statement like this.Sure.. As long as people admit that it's basically the same game as Far Cry 2 and retroactively make that the people's choice for 2008.

Your like the first person I heard say that, to each their own, but imo you are wrong, there are a ton of things in FC3 that makes it leaps above the previous game, the customization, animals in the wild to hunt, Its like Skyrim, Assassins Creed and Far Cry all wrap up in one game, I dont see how anyone can say its not a improvement over the previous game in every way possible, its far from FC2, but whatever I am not going to argue or even debate something that is pointless anyway, to each their own.Yeah, malaria in FC2 was annoying. After putting a ton of hours into both FC2 and FC3, I still dont see them as different enough that someone could hate one and love the other.
