Far Cry 3- GOTFY?

Might be outlandish, but before you disagree and call me a poop head (or, whatever), here is a list of activities you can do in the game:

- Customize all your weapons

- Fly helicopters

- Get tattoos

- Shoot guys from a zipline

- Stab a guy with his machete, then throw it at another guy

- Wrestle alligators

- Hunt bears

- Play poker

- Go hang gliding

- Take hallucinogenic drugs

- Pull the pin on a guy's grenade, then kick him into his friends

- Just jump right into a group of guys and stab them to death

Plus it looks really beautiful and won't have the always online DRM and a bunch of other stuff, and the return of the cool (if somewhat unrealistic) DIY healing system from Far Cry 2 where you could bandage yourself up and relocate your bones in some of the most incredibly painful looking ways for that last bar of health. I always liked it, but here it seems a bit out of place when you aren't this world hardened mercenary who eats morphine for breakfast.

Looks and sounds good, but so did Farcry2.

Hoping its awesome but dont have many hopes or hype for it.

Also, I don't really like the whole WUB WUB DUBSTEP 420 SHROOMS WE SO COOL XD theme of the game, nor do I like the CoD carbon-copy multiplayer.

Far Cry 2, a game that is absolutely worlds apart from this game, without any ties thematically or in story? With developers acknowledging flaws it had and insane steps they took to improve this one? And the high scores and over a million copies it sold anyways (which means calling it bad is totally subjective)?

Plus a single trailer from February with some dubstep is kind of an idiotic measure of the entire theme of the game, especially when you then say its a "WUB WUB DUBSTEP 420 SHROOMS WE SO COOL XD" theme, which sounds like the sort of thing someone might say if they had literally never heard of the game and just assumed it was a stoner game for dubstep fans, with the most idiotic description of such a game I've heard.

Looks like it will be the best FPS of this year, but that's because there aren't that many good FPS coming out.

Cod is the same as each year, MOH looks totally unoriginal and Halo, well I'm tired of that series.

Next year it will be much better with Metro, Crysis and Bioshock:)

I think NS2 will be the best multiplayer shooter and Far Cry 3 has a good chance to be the best singleplayer shooter.

LOL advertising is so effective when it's so harsh and massive. Far cry 2 looked so promising with that fire spreading thing, open world action, weapons jamming, air-gliding, tactical sniping.. Maybe it's goty, but have in mind whats coming along, bo2, moh ahahaha help me stop.

All these people thinking its a direct Far Cry 2 sequel makes me wish they just named it something else. Were people assuming FC2 would have mutants with chainguns on them this much?

Anyways, no malaria, they don't even bring back weapon jamming, which I actually really liked, or at least I would have if enemies didn't all have weapons held together by duct tape and chinese newsprint that NEVER broke on them. They simplified the HUD (radar is always on screen instead of requiring you to take out your GPS), added a skill tree, fast travel system, weapon customization system, and really its just a totally new game. The only tie it has to either previous FC games is the fact that its an open shooter game set in a wild environment.

I kind of hope they add in a hardcore mode, since I did like the weapon jamming and the HUD seems TOO helpful. I definitely can't complain about the addition of fast travel, highly improved currency system and tons of side activities and missions to do that prevent the repetition FC2 had.

No people were assuming they were getting the game the developers promised them. Instead we didn't get 'the next evolution in FPS' (actual developers words from an interview), heck we didn't even get a game that was fun to play because of the malaria, weapon jams and constant checkpoints.

It looks great, I will definitely be getting in. Always been a fan of the Far Cry series and it seems like they have really outdone themselves here. But after watching the newest Last of Us gameplay, I don't think any game will beat it out for game of the year. Definitely a nominee though.

The Last of Us is 2013, Far Cry 3 comes out December of this year so no conflict there!

If it doesn't get delayed haha We'll see. Time will only tell. Either way I'm getting both...and GTA V as well. Too many to keep up with all the release dates.

Ahh... I remember far cry 2...I think I was the first person to write a negative review on gamespot (4th person to review after 5th hour of release)

I pre ordered far cry 2 instead of fallout 3 and left 4 dead because of the pre-view from ign, gamespy and gamespot looked really well. they promised

"destructible environment", "100 hour of gameplay", "open-world", etc. IGN even posted developer interview with one of their design-lead, they told us about how they went to Africa to capture the unique african setting, and etc. I learned that Ubisoft really does a good job advertising their game.

It turned out to be a terrible console port (multiplayer was match-making only, in 2008, that was bit foreign to me). The choke-point was filled with "instant" respawned enemies and the most of the stuff they promised turned out to be false. (on metacritic, it received average user score of 5.5/10, I believe it still is)

If you guys want to pre-order farcry 3, go ahead, but keep in mind you are not losing much after it comes out and user reviews are in.

After the latest trailer, it does look like they improved on many things that plagued FC2. It actually looks fun, but it still looks like they are trying to market this to 15 year olds. I don't like what that could mean for the actual gameplay.

Actually I find Far Cry 3 to look promising. One thing Ubisoft knows is to learn from player feedback (like the complaints about Assassin's Creed gameplay being too repetitive, which led to AC2 being more varied). Some people like myself found Far Cry 2 missions to be repetitive and annoying as you drive most of the time, being chased by guards every time you drive past a guard post but it did featured some nice scenery back then and a simple yet fun editor.

The tropical island setting is another plus but one thing is certain. Each Far Cry will never seem to be linked, they should just drop the name and come up with something else, then again a famous brand name can interest millions.

Well they all carry the same premise, an everyman with a set of skills in a hostile but beautiful environment with guns and freedom. Its like how the Final Fantasy numbered games carry none of the same characters or themes, but they're all turn based JRPG's with similar gameplay mechanics and stylistic decisions, or how each GTA game focuses on entirely new characters in a different city.

I'm super stoked on it. Looks amazing. But, as with pretty much everything, I'm not gonna preorder, or buy day one. I'll wait til there's official reviews all over the place, and player reviews, and a lot more gameplay footage.

Far Cry 3 will have to do something spectacular IMO to be GOTY. Not that Far Cry 3 will be bad but that this has been a great year. It will probably be one of the best, but THE best? Nah. I see all the aspects of a good game but you really got to get your hands on it first.

It was GOTY for me the minute they said they're keeping the open world (and a lot of other great features) from FC2. The only thing Ubisoft can do to mess it up is if they don't give s an option to get rid of the wallhacks, HUD, trackers, and make it more like FC2.

FC2 might have had a lot of flaws, but it did immersion right with the minimal HUD, no cutscenes, health system, weapon jams, etc.

lol, they were tolerable at least.

The point where I really got annoyed was when I decided to fast travel to a location because I didn't feel like passing all the same guard posts again. I had to sit through a 5 minute loading screen and when it was done loading I instantly got run over by a guard patrol and died. (They yelled something in a foreign language, I'm sure they were lauging at me :P) Went right back to loading. I uninstalled that piece of **** right then and there.

It's looking pretty good to be honest, as much as a disapointment Far Cry 2 was.

Anyway the most interesting thing about it systems driven gameplay aside, is the writers wanting to do a - low and behold - 'deconstruction of the shooter genre' theme, which seems to be riffing on Hear of Darkness as well; Spec Ops seemed to beat them well to the punch.

It'll be really interesting comparing the two.

Otherwise I might pick it up seeing how things go, though I do think Dishonoured and Planetside 2 are sitting in the limelight in terms unique shooters this year.
