With all of the hype of Far Cry 3 being so demanding I have been wondering if I can max it out myself? Rig specs in my sig.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Your specs are pretty comparable to my roommate's new system we just built. He's got a i5 3570k, GTX 560 TI 2gb, and he can run Far Cry 3 just barely not maxed out. I think we got it to like "very high", but not quite "ultra", and then also manually turned off the SSAO (because it looks kind of weird in this particulary game, and is a performance hog), and it's getting average framerate in the 50s, with the lowest getting down towards 40, but never dropping under 40.
So yeah, I'd guess you should be able to do "very high" with a pretty consistant, high framerate. Maybe even ultra, if you don't mind ~40-ish FPS.
In DX9 you'll be able to max it out. In DX11 everything on high will be fine. TBH though, DX9 looks nearly the same as DX11 but runs lot better. With all of the hype of Far Cry 3 being so demanding I have been wondering if I can max it out myself? Rig specs in my sig.

With MSAA and FXAA on the low I think everything else on Ultra would work fine with a 570.
low, if at all.
HyperWarlock
lol thats completely untrue. where did you even get that from??
On topic: I was able to run it maxed everything including 8x msaa but i could notice some stutters, specifically when I moved my mouse all over the place to test it. Now I've put it down to 2x MSAA everything else maxed and there's absolutely no slowdown at all whatsoever.

Can I run it??
I have a Laptop with i5 3210m @2.5GHZ (With boost to 3.1GHZ but I don't know how to do that lol) 6GB of RAM and a GeForce 640

Yes on low settings at around 30fps on performace mode it is possible at 1280/768. Console version with mouse and keyboard.

I somehow read his specs wrong, I take back what I said.

What do you expect laptop parts are junk for gaming.[QUOTE="Pelon208"][QUOTE="Travis_Odell"]

I can run it with every setting on its highest only without any AA and it runs beautifully and looks astonishing. TBH, I barely notice jaggies in this game. Specs in sig.
I still need to try this game. looks so awesome!I can run Far Cry 3 maxed on my GTX 570 build.
At 1680x1050 it runs maxed 4xmsaa with 30-42 fps.
Take out the MSAA or put it down to 2xMSAA and you can run it maxed at 1920x1080.

You talking with me? I played far cry 2 on ultra in 1080p pretty well. Are you sure im not going to max far cry 3 out?fluffy_puppy666
You defiintely wont be able to max it out. As you can see from the previous comments involving my rig, which is considerably more powerful than yours, it seems that I likely wont be able to have everything maxed out either.
Thanks guys for the serious replies, much appreciated. With that being said, what kind of difference does this hungry msaa make anyway, and why would anyone necessarily need it?

You've got better specs than my laptop. I get 30+ fps with a custom graphics profile. Textures, environment and foliage on high, everything else on medium and low, SSAO off, MSAA x2, 1280x720 resolution. Looks good enough. Plays well at 30-ish. I've tried to get sweetfx to work with it, because i think the SMAA from that would probably get me more frames than the game's MSAA, but it doesn't seem to want to work with it. Just won't launch with the sweetfx dlls in the folder for some reason.
Edit: For referance, I have a dual core i5 2.27 ghz, 4gb RAM, and a mobility radeon hd4670 1gb, and I get 30-45 fps looking like this.
You know you can run it, it sounds like you are making a big deal on whether you can max it, which is a weird thing to be worried about when there's also "high" and "medium" settings and all, and it will still look damn good.

I wasn't aware that I was making a big deal about it? Yes, I'm aware I can run it, anyone with a pulse in the PC gaming world knows that, but I was wondering if anyone with similar specs or an informative opinion has been able to max it, or knew if they could. I received the answers I was looking for. I more than likely cannot with MSAA. Thank you, for being so observational, it was really enlightening.......

Looks pretty great in these shots, I wouldn't complain with similar results. Hopefully my rig can bring even more beauty out of this game. That's something I'm definitely looking forward to. These screenshots are earily similar to Crysis(The game that got me into PC gaming), so I am very excited for this one. Speaking of which, anyone know if FC3 will have any mods in the future? Texture mods, ENB mods, TOD mods?

My screenshots look better than it does in game, since they're 1280x720, squashed into 800x450 for the forums, rather than stretched onto my 19" laptop screen, which is 1920x1080 native. But yeah, it's still quite pretty. Looking at your sig, your specs are nearly identical (but slightly better) than my roommate's new system we just built. He's playing FC3 right now, running it at ultra, DX11, with 4x MSAA, HBAO, 1080p, and getting 45-50fps average, with the lowest of the lows getting to like 35-ish. Looks GORGEOUS, and extremely playable. I'd suspect you could get the same results. Maybe go with "very high" instead of "ultra", or DX9 over DX11, if you really want a fluid 60 frames.
There's a hardcore mod out already.FelipeInside

Don't get excited, unless he's referencing some new cool and balanced hardcore mod I didn't hear about, the latest mod was just something that removed the HUD elements. Really cool, but it also removes QTE prompts which would make some cases impossible to win without a video guide or turning it back on.

Oh. dukes. that's probably it. I read about that. And yeah, without the QTE prompts, getting attacked by a crocodile would be pretty much immediate death. I've been jumped by those bastards a couple times, and you have to fight them off with a button-mashing QTE, which seems to randomly alternate between E, C, or Space. Without the prompt, you wouldn't know which to use, and you'd probably be eaten.
I'd really like to just turn off the enemy indicator arrows. I don't mind the HUD, but those big white arrows definitely hurt immersion, and make stealth too easy.

Snaps. Awesome. I'll probably wait for the official patch, and see what options it gives. I'd really like to turn off the enemy arrows, but I don't mind the minimap, and definitely don't want to lose the QTE prompts. At least the ones that change, like the alligator attacks. I wouldn't mind not seeing "takedown" on screen every time I get near an enemy.
There really isn't interface clutter once you get past the tutorial parts of the game. Just a mini map, health bars, and an ammo thing that goes away shortly after you pull a gun out.Toxic-Seahorse
Yeah, the big thing for me is the enemy indicator arrows. Totally immersion breaking, and makes stealth WAAAAAY too easy. I would consider turning off everything just to get rid of those. Hopefully I won't have to, after the patch.
