I just got a copy of the original Far Cry and when I go to install it, it gets partially through the installation then it stops and says "Run setup32.exe on 32-bit windows, or setup64.exe on 64-bit windows"

I have Vista 64-bit and there's no setup64.exe on the disk. Has anyone else had this problem and know how to fix it?

Hello Mate.

Looks like, you have a old Far Cry Version, which doesnt come with a Setup64.exe

There are 2 Solutions for you.

First:

1. Install Far Cry on a 32Bit Windows Version
2. Copy the Program Files/Ubisoft folder to your Program Files (32 Bit) folder on the 64 Bit Installation
3. Install patch 1.3 to the installation
4. Add the AMD 64 pack
5. Patch with 1.4

64 Bit Patch here:

Patch 1.3 and 1.4 here:

Second Solution is, to get the Direct2Drive Version, which has the Setup64.exe :)

Have Fun.

Yes this is a complete botch by Ubisoft. There is an amd64 patch but you need to have it installed on a 32 bit system to begin with! Apparently there was a dvd version released later on that did include setup64.exe but it was missed off the original cds. If you dual boot 32 and 64 bit OSs there is a workaround here. It's a complete cock up and you may have to resort to obtaining the x64 compatible dvd version from elsewhere just to play a game that you legally own.

Btw I bought it dirt cheap off Steam a few weeks ago and that works fine on Win7 64.

So could I install it onto my moms laptop which is XP 32-bit, download all the patches and fixs then put it onto an external drive and move it to my desktop?

Don't know if this works because of registry entries.

But try it out.

Install it on your moms PC, then copy the ENTIRE content(usually "C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Farcry" to your 64 bit directory (C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Farcry must be the SAME!) and patch it from there to 1.4.

Then install the AMD 64-Bit Fix and try it :)

I wish you luck!

If that won't work, then install it on your moms pc, patch it to 1.4 there and probably use the 64 bit fix also.

you have to do some experiments there, because they screwed up, big time :)

I just had the same problem loading a copy I recently got from newegg.com and then saw it on steam. Downloaded it and it works fine. I'm giving my newegg copy to my brother who is still running XP.
