It's still my favorite single player campaign, and I do like the multiplayer, but no one plays the game without mods anymore. Considering I got the game in 2005 for $20, I'm really satisfied by how much bang for my buck I got.
It's not that old. You guys act like 2004 was so long ago. cmdrmonkey
Ah the wonders and intricate dynamics of human's differing opinions...This just shows how people have different tastes in games.
I hated Far Cry. I thought it was terrible.
I am holding out hope that Crysis hits the spot for me.

Exactly. I wasn't flaming, it's just an opinion. Besides, I am in the minority. Most of my friends that game liked Far Cry. There was just something about it I didn't care for.Â
I personally think it isn't extremely good, but I guess it satisfies for a few months. I'm currently having a graphics problem with it, making it pretty much unplayable (Textures are screwed up). And I'm too nervous about updating my graphics drivers, and I am too lazy to re-install it. Oh well, I need the Hard Drive Space.
I must admit though, the Xbox/Xbox 360 Version is alot better IMO.

He probably got the game thinking the multiplayer would be good. i actually thought the same since the multi was really good on the Xbox. i was dead wrong.  The single player is good but I did not complete it and doubt i ever will. The multiplayer is like a last minute addition and looks nothing like the single player.
Good game, way ahead of its time, I'm pretty sure the Crytek team was thinking the same thing when they launched the game but kinda got over-run by games likes Half-Life 2.
Tho, Far Cry still has amazing graphics and great single player, to bad Multiplayer sucked.

I never tried the multi-player and I don't own a console so I would have never known about the XBox version.Â

With the shortage of good FPS games, I recently got Far Cry out of mothballs, and WOW, I forgot how great the game actually is! From the graphics to the AI ,I still enjoy it more than any other shooter that has come out since. To me the game seems way ahead of it's time by todays standards. Does anyone else agree?desmith1231
Far Cry is one of the - and quite possibly the - best PC games yet released. The graphics, AI, and fun storyline, just cannot be beat.

I think I've got you pegged.
I haven't patched it, but I bought the game last July, and it worked fine on my laptop until this March, so it can't be unsupported. Plus, my GPU is quite above the recommended GPU requirements. It's a GeForce 7900 GS Go.xTRIGGER092xYou should patch every PC game you buy. Like me: I buy a game, and bring it home. First thing's first - download the patch, before I even open the box. Sometimes I even download the patch before I go out to buy the game itself.

If you have a GPU above anything mentioned on the Far Cry box, you'll need to patch the game as the GPU technically isn't supported. I gauranttee that once you patch the game, most of the glitches will cease to exist. I had the same issue on a laptop with a Mobility Radeon X600, another with an Nvidia GeForce Go 7200 (my current notebook) and even on my GeForce 8800GTS equiped desktop rig. Once I patched the game, it was all fixed and my only limitations were my actual hardware.Â

I'm right there with ya. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person in the world who hated this game. Hell, I've felt alienated enough that I genuinely wish I had enjoyed it. I know what bugged me about it though. The basic gameplay is interesting enough; the plot is serviceable, the weapons are satisfying to use, and the levels are really well-designed. The problem I had with the game, however, lies in the absurd difficulty of the AI. Far too often, sniping enemies from afar will immediately put your head in their crosshairs. On top of that, enemies seem to have X-ray eyes, which makes all that foliage pretty pointless to use as cover. In fact, I've been picked off through walls by enemies on easy difficulty. That being said, if anyone has any tips to help me enjoy this game or deal with the aforementioned issues, please let me know. I'd love to discover the same level of enjoyment that the rest of the friggin' planet seems to have had with Far Cry.Exactly. I wasn't flaming, it's just an opinion. Besides, I am in the minority. My first time playing Far Cry I played it safe and snuck around to get good position on the enemy because I had heard so much about the AI. Don't do that. Just freaking start blasting. Get there attention and then move. Remeber tho the point of the game is to get closer to your next objective not to kill everything. Once you get a few weapons you like just try and avoid the enemies and survive. I found that after changing the way I played with these things in mind I had much more success plus a whole lot more fun. The AI is good but it's still just a computer. Figure out the stupid things they do and don't sit in one spot too much. The AI guys don't know exactly where you are but when you pop your head up or fire your gun they know where you were. So shoot and run to a different spot that give you a good view of your old spot and watch em close in on it. It's sweet when you get down and just kill run look back kill run to the next spot....ha ha....gonna load it up this weekend. When dealing with the mercs don't forget that once you see em thru your binoc's they are tagged and appear on your radar. The monsters don't do this as I remember. Good luck with them. I think I wet myself the first time a mutant beast jumped out of no where and killed me. I bet I shrieked like a little girlie man.

See above... :PÂ
First time i played it i though it was crap. But i recently played through it again, and thought it was very good this time.
Great graphics, great gameplay, nice physics and all the guns are very cool. Only problems for me where the crap story, pointless monsters and AI which seemed to pick up even the slightest movements. Â
Lows: * Voice acting very cheesy. "I'm going to shoot you in the face!" Urgh. madrocketeer
For me that's 100% the charm, it's not a con at all it's great. It doesn't pretend to be incredibly serious, the mercs are a bit of a joke and they know that which is why they say those funny lines.Â
Yeah it was and is still a pretty good game. One of the things i loved about it the most was the enormous free you had, and it really felt like a cool adventure because you werent just on a rail getting a strait line trough it ala Hl2.
Â
But i think crysis wont be able to beat Far Cry, because far cry actually was innovative with the big freedom you got. Crysis will have that too but now its not new. So i wonder what else then graphics that crysis is gonna bring to the table.

The devs were going for a classic B-Action Movie feel. Normally I hate when directors/developers intensionally use bad dialog and over-the-top voice acting, but I think it worked well in Far Cry. In fact, Far Cry was the ultimate B-Action Movie: hot chicks, evil bad dudes, big explosions, and tons of eye-rolling plot twists.
I TOTALLY agree with everyone here who actually feels the same way I do! hahaha..... And rolled their eyes when ppl says FC was actually the best, or even good.        Â
Â
I mean, I played many many FPS titles, good and bad, and I can put Farcry in the 60% category.   Â
FarCry = mediocre.
Â
Disappointed back then with the hype, still thinks the game is just a fancy candy wrapper over a normal FPS but with large levels.
Â
The AI isnt smart, it was buggy, the only thing cool was the graphics. Any1 remember Giants? that game where u can play 3 different characters and nice visuals? lol....the game where I asked myself why ppl gave it a 9.5/10....and I traded it for something else.
Â
Thats what Farcry is. One of the first games to come out with huge dense levels filled with insane effects, etc.....and forgotten in 6 months. Crysis is that kind of game again for 2007. But maybe this time, its actually gonna be good. Gameplay in the jungle seemed boring after 30 seconds....however,      Know what FPS is still the best and started as the best?.... FEAR.   8)
Â
Who ever played FEAR, and says its not good should slap themselves silly. Â Â Â Â hahahÂ

You have insulted both Far Cry and Giants:Citizen Kabuto, all in one post. This is unacceptable.
I would challenge you to a fight, but it's the internet. And they're just video games. F*** it. I quit.
Does anyone know how to use the cryengine sandbox.I tried to jerry around with it but I didnt put in much effort.Anyone have any tips? jongaska
I have the 188-page manual printed out and in a binder beside me. (Brushing up on my skills for when Sandbox 2 comes out!)
The manual still exists on an old Ubisoft FTP server right here. Just look out, you'll scare the janitor using it as a bed if you make it start working again.

Hehehe , I didnt even realise that haha. Im not saying the games were bad, just that to me..... its just eye candy. Yes, the gameplay and overall polish deserved its points, but it wasnt spectacular to be considered the best of FPS. Not to talk about HL, but I also feel that game is overrated.
.... LoL not to start internet fights, but sorry.... to FarCry fans, plz dont cry. I rank HL over FC. Â Â
