Ultima VII: The Black Gate
It's the most interactive and immersive RPG ever made, where the world feels alive and every NPCs is believable, not mere quest givers. The moral system used in this game impressive. Your actions are judged all the time in a natural manner, much more complex and satisfying than choosing between the red and blue dialog lines of today's games.
It's a game everyone should play. It runs great on modern systems, thanks to Exult. You can buy it at GOG: www.gog.com/en/gamecard/ultima_7_complete
Everquest 1. No game has given me that feeling of awsomeness as when i first played EQ1. It was the first ever MMO that i played, it was something completey different, it was everything i had ever dreamed an online game could be and more. No other game has ever given me that awesome feeling since, and i doubt one ever will again.
Depends on my taste at the time as well as my mood, and yes there is a distinction in that my taste is something more passive whereas my mood is more active, clever folks understand.Zubinen
I'm from the midwest where admitting to being cleveris highly frowned upon, but I kind of know what you mean.My favorite musical-groups-of-the-moment change over time: Cloud Cult, Broken Social Scene...LCD Soundsystem. My favorite artist of nearly all time, however, does not. It's always: Bonnie Prince Billie/Will Oldham/Palace Brothers/Palace Music. (Yes, that's all the same artist.)
What is your favorite PC game and why =pSomeDays2
The same as yours, I believe: Fallout 3. They say it's not a true sequel to 1 and 2, but that's not my problem as it's the first Fallout game that I played and I was blown away. I think it's mainly because the story sounds very possible. And the 50s style gives it a special charm, and probably makes up for the lack of realism in certain aspects.
The Dungeons and Dragons games, especially Baldur's Gate, check my recent blog entry, made a list of these games, for those who know it and those who want to get into them! :P

I loved the sandbox-iness of Fallout 3 and yes, it's my fav game too. I can't get it to work on my new PC because of all the mods I placed on it and I can't get newer mods onto my Fallout New Vegas (because I guess I'm not good at adding mods right now) BUT....
I was reminded how much I like these games while at my FONV camp in Goodsprings I am pondering where I am going to travel to, how long it will take me to get there, how many enemy factions will I see? What will it take to bring them down? ....and then choosing from hundreds of possible weapons AND the related ammo to go along with them. ...while also factoring how much valuable loot might I encounter and how much weight I'm willing tobring with me? And then trekking out with only a vague idea of what I want to do other than wander and scavenge.
I put over 400 hours I'm embarrassed to say into FO3 and it looks like over 200 hours into FONV. I basically went with the same character in both games and when I was getting my hand forced into making a decision I didn't feel good about, I just killed off a named boss and quit themain quest leaving 1/8th of the vanilla game unfinished. I can't make my Washington DC good guy turn into a Las Vegas a**hole. That's commitment to the immersion right there, boy!
Unless I can find some gaming geek at a Best Buy to get my mods working on these games though, I might have to start a thread on asking Gamespotters for recommendations on other open-world games. I want the openworldiness of Skyrim but I want the NON-fantasy setting of the Fallout 3 and FONV. I'm guessing Just Cause 2? S.T.A.L.K.E.R?
My first gaming experiences were City of Heroes, San Andreas and FO3. I love open worlds more than anything but I can only play so many Tolkienesque type of games. Not my thing. Though I did play Dragon Age because it didn't have multiplayer, I had no Internet, and needed something to do. I also played Witcher 2 because it seemed like you could really customize the story and playstyle to your own unique approach. The combat was fun, too! (Loved the Witcher 2 and I hope it gets game of the year even though I'm not a big fantasy guy! Skyrim's probably overshadowed it for GOTY though.)
Any recommendations on open-world games with sci-fi settings like Fallout 3 please? (Also, any tips on downloadinbg World of Pain for FONV? Or getting my old FO3 mods to work on my new pC? Q.Q)

Why can't you make the mods work on your new PC? They're fairly easy to install. And there are so many of them that one can easily forget what the main story is about :D. Stalker games are probably the most similar to FO3, but the little I've seen of them seems kind of raw (and not in the good way). You might like Hitman Blood Money and that last sequel, forgot its name. And Max Payne 1 and 2, it easily beats every other game in terms of style and storytelling, but you've probably played that already. Just Cause 2 is a joke unless you're ~13. And of course there's GTA4, although I liked San Andreas better. Also there's a not very popular game Dark Sector, which I enjoyed, it's kind of short but you get to slice people in half with a boomerang while directing it left and right.:D

I haven't played any of those but have been reading up on the Max Payne a bit. It'd be good to enjoy a Rockstar game again. After I go thru Arkham Asylum for a 2.5 time and Dead Space a 1st time, I'm going to get Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Then I'll probably just get some of these mods working again on my Fallout games while waiting for Arkham City to drop down in price. I hear that's open world. I guess Saints Row the Third is PC now (?)and open-world, too. I might like that better than GTA IV or ArkhamCity for the freedom to create my own character.
Any one know if you can name your own character in Saints Row 3? Also, could I make a guy named Junior with red skin, long blondhair, and prefers a samurai sword, a revolver, and leather jackets?
Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines is without a doubt my favourite PC game.
Why? The rich lore combined with the incredible atmosphere makes for one amazing experience. There is also a dedicated community that keeps on putting out new content for the game.
S.W.A.T. 4 is a close second.
It has to be Heroes of Might and Magic 3. I keep coming back to that game, even ten years after it came out.Hexagon_777
Are you using the HD mod you have in your link? The game looks really polished!

I didn't have the HD mod yet when I took that screenshot. :PEYE: DC. Why? It's Cyberpunk mixed with Greek, Egyptian, and Asian culture, guns, swords, cybernetic and psi abilities shrouded in mystery and myth. For a while Mass Effect filled that void but "ME"is missing the gritty feel.
Really? :P, the game looks better than the last time i played it :P, guess i was playing in a lower resolution! (HoMM3)
Of all time I guess I would say the Half Life series, I love them!
At the moment I am really enjoying Crysis 1 on the hardest setting. I love games where you can use stealth and snipe etc. Also red Alert gets an honerable mention as I used to love playing that game many years ago.
Yup, really. I bought this version off GOG and it comes with all the expansion packs and runs fine on Windows 7. The resolution is 800 x 600 if I recall correctly. I am no expert, though, so I can't really explain why it would look better to you. =PReally? :P, the game looks better than the last time i played it :P, guess i was playing in a lower resolution! I didn't have the HD mod yet when I took that screenshot. :P The HD mod is awesome. I wish someone did the same to Might and Magic VI, VII and VIII. It looks fantastic, still got every single HoMM game in my shelf, my dad loved it :P Yeah, i played HoMM3 back in the day and my monitor sucked, guess it was just the shot image size that made it look so polished, dunno :P
Mafia 1
I have a weakness for good gangster stories, especially those that take place in the 1920's. They did a fantastic job of capturing the feel of the era in Mafia, and the story is great to boot.
Well you cant say what is best game on PC you can decide what is best in it own genre,.
RTS - as far as best , story , graphic & sound for that time and many more aspects, it is far as best Red Alert 95
FPS - Counter Strike 1999. simply has anything which COD series never had - flawless atmosphere.
TBS - Heroes of Might & Magic 3
Adventure - Castlevania Simphony of the night
RPG - Sacred 1 (sorry folks dunno liked it most)
MMORPG - 3 - first places : Tibia , Ever Quest 1 and Rift. (Like hard core difficulty)
F2play - Its League of Legends ofc.

Agreed, 100%!
Also, Diablo 2, I spent so much time playing that game. It was easily some of the best times I've ever had playing a game, and I still play it on occasion.
Morrowind as well, been playing it pretty consistently since I bought it in 2004, mods really keep that game alive.

You have to install the DOS version through DosBox and then run the game using this emulator. I'm using a modified version of DosBox with the openGLHQ renderer. I uploaded this particular version of DosBox already configured to play games at 1920x1080.

DC Universe Online, too. Once my group finished tonight I hung out on the completed mission map solo for a minute or two peering over Doomsday through the cyndical cage I Ihelped to put him in. Then SWOOSH*...taking off over the windswept fields of Smallville!

Picked it up on Gog.com recently but haven't installed it since I am still going through Skyrim. I've played Ultima 8 and 9 but I never got into 7 before. Can't wait to dive into it.
Undoubtedly, the Half-Life series is the BEST ever, hands down! I still remember the day back in 1998, when I purchased a boxed copy of Half-Life, and started playing. My God, what an exhilarating experience it was! The intensity of the game was simply mind blowing! After that, I played all the single player games released in the Half-Life series, and all of them wee really splendid! Hats off to Valve!
P.S. Its such a tragedy that Valve are no longer interested in Half-Life. In all probability, Half-Life is dead. R.I.P. :(
The OP asks for your best game and why! Why do you consider it the best game? What makes the gameplay so superior? I am eager to hear your response.Planescape: Torment for favorite
Most played and possibly most enjoyable game is Diablo II w/ LoD.
