I recently got the Fallout collection ( 1, 2 and Tactics) and really have been having a blast playing Fallout 1. I have Fallout 3 and while its fun, it feels like fallout in name only. With Fallout: New Vegas coming out in about a week, I just wanted to know what peoples favorite Fallout game is.

I Like Fallout 1 the most so far, but I haven't played Fallout 2 or Tactics yet though.

It's hard for me to consider Fallout 3 canon with the rest of them given that's its 3D, but besides that I don't feel that it captured the same atmosphere as the first two (or three) games. It's just not Fallout. I picked Fallout 1, given that Fallout 2 was buggy as hell on release (but with unffocial patches is probably better)

The game is called Wasteland, not Wastelander.

Fallout 3. I couldn't stand Fallout 2. That game was so archaic. I don't even know why people hype the story to be good. Personally, I felt the story was bad.

The above is my opinion. *ducks* Hey, can't I *rolls* have my own opinion?! *is mobbed by Fallout 2 fans*

I have always seen the fallout games like this:

FO1 has the best story by far, it was the first time into the wasteland, and I will always remember that game ^^

FO2 has the best mechanics, and so much content that it is almost silly. Story is not as good as FO1, but it is still good enough to push the game farwards. The humor became alot more slapstick.

FO: Tactics: had the best combat (It should, it is build up around combat afterall) story is lacking, but apart from that it is enjoyable.

FO3: I still dont consider it a FO game, I think it is quite good, but Calling it fallout (numeric sequal)is a bit iffy to me, I prefer thinking of it as a reboot of a sort, since it has nothing really in common with the first fallouts, not in gameplay or gameworld apart from a few overarching things, in my oppinion they should have left out the "3" It is not that I have a problem with it being a fallout game, but a numbered sequal, was doing the overall really good game a disfavor, if they called it something else,

FO:NV: Like FO3 I do not see it as a game in the same series as the old Fallouts, but rather a new series that shares name, I think it will be good aswell :) being made by quite a few people who also worked on the first 2 fallouts, I am sure they can string together a good game, with a good story.

I generally dislike game devs picking up old brands, and making games that does not resemble the old ones at all. If they wanted to make a game with the old name (especially as a numbered sequal) they should stick to the mechanics that was known in the old games, not that I dislike a reboot of a series, Fallout was all but dead as a game universe, so I am quite happy that Bethesta decided to make a new Fallout, and allowed other people to make them aswell, Guess by beef boils down to me preferring a name such as "Fallout: New wasteland stories" or something like that ;)

I felt that Fallout 2 really improved on everything that made the first game great. Sure, the story was a bit lacking and the tone was different, but I definitely enjoyed the second game more.

close call between Fallout 1 & 2, but personally I like the sequel more. there's some enhancement of the role-playing (like playing as female) side, which is kinda scary considering how great Fallout is.

also, I'd say the original makes Fallout 2 better since there's a sense of self-reference/parody in Fallout 2, adding to its charm and fun, which can only be because of Fallout.

anyway, the order of preference -- 2, 1, Tactics and then 3. Fallout 3 has some decent side quests; with level cap, its level system is somewhat fun, but overall the wicked Fallout lore is gone, and the combat is to a degree special, but not remotely as fun and engaging as the turn base styIe in original games. so, I actually enjoy the combat oriented Tactics more~~"

Fallout 3 - because they've took best RPG at that time Oblivion and transformed it into STALKER mod. A post apocalyptic atmosphere, guns and improved Oblivion's RPG elements. can I have asked more? nope - a perfect game, I even remember the only problem was that some mines only on the bridges were partly invisable - fixed that with minor patch; Currently playing it with all expansions on (GOTY) and enjoying every single moment of it :D

PredatorRules

I think that's a very good way of summarising Fallout 3. It even works for people who disliked the game. :P

Hard to say between the first one or the second. Fallout 3 is a great elder scrolls game.
