From a blog post:
1. System Shock 2 - A first person science fiction roleplaying shooter horror masterpiece. True genius.
2. Doom - Ultraviolence + shotgun + chainsaw = gaming heaven, even after fifteen years.
3. Doom 2 - More of the same.
4. Escape from Butcher Bay - one third stealther, one third adventurer, one third shooter, three thirds awesome. Amazing diversity, amazing pacing, great narrative.
5. Dawn of War - The most brutal, most beautiful thing I have ever seen in my life.
6. Half Life - Five minutes into We got hostiles, I knew this was the best game ever made of all time ever, which is why it's at number 6. Number 6 is a special place..
7. Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines - Excellent roleplaying mechanics, excellent voice work (John DiMaggio for King of America!) and an excellent setting make this my favourite RPG of all ever.
8. Crysis - The nanosuit is awesome. The AI is awesome. The visuals are awesome. Sandbox editor is awesome. Crysis is awesome.
9. F.E.A.R - The best AI, the best use of slow motion and some of the coolest damn enemies around. F.E.A.R's firefights are without equal.
10. Medieval Total War - The closest I'll (probably) ever come to conquering europe. Excellent battle mechanics, great sense of scale and some killer AI make this the best in the series unless you like men in those little frilly skirts the Romans wear.
11. Fallout - I can't imagine how anyone could improve upon this game's roleplaying mechanics and complexity.
12. Half Life 2 - A degree of diversity so rarely seen in games makes HL2 truly unique and exceptional.
13. Grand Theft Auto Vice City - 80s music, hookers you can kill after banging them and a guy called Jez Torrent. I can't see how it gets any better.
14. Team Fortress 2 - Team Fortress 2 is the team-based multiplayer FPS, even if medics do only heal me when I'm in the top 3... Great humour, great styIe nine distinct cIasses, a ton of great game modes and maps and lots and lots of fun.
15. Max Payne - Awesome gunplay mechanics and some astounding storytelling make Max Payne an exceptional and unique experience.
16. EverQuest - The MMORPG for the hardcore. Until you've killed a God with seventy one companions, you will never understand.
17. Portal - Innovative, unique, hilarious and fun. Proof that games can be less than three hours long and still contend for the GOTY awards.
18. Company of Heroes - A more refined, more polished and more evolved version of one of the best RTS games ever made make CoH one of the best in its genre.
19. Broken Sword - Wonderful writing, delightful art and a ton of awesome puzzles.
20. Max Payne 2 - More Max is always good. MP2 manages to reproduce everything that made the original great without cowering in its father's shadow - a truly commendable achievement for any sequel.

5. Bioshock.
6. Red Alert 2.
7. COH.
yay, another... from my blog:
1. Front Page Sports: Football Pro '95
best version of a series that revolutionized football games; first to do almost everything - franchise mode, career mode, play editor, online play. still has the best play editor around; still has the most realistic stats generated every season; still is the best football in town.
2. Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn
you can create an assassin the first time around, then a magician the second time, a fighter the third, a priest the fourth, etc. every single time the game will play differently. the best strategic combat in any rpg.
3. Fallout
first rpg (at least among the ones i played) that really allowed for your character to impact the world and the world to impact the character. the most immersive rpg of all time.
4. Half-Life 2
gravity gun and physics - that's all i'd need to mention to convince anyone that it features the best gameplay around. achieves a cinematic experience that no other fps before or since has even remotely come close to matching.
5. Master of Magic
set the standard for turn-based strategy games. first strategy game (that i've played) to feature heroes that you cared about and upgraded and maintained. the magic system in this game is absolutely fantastic and provides an extra layer of strategic depth to an already deep game.
6. Fallout 2
more of fallout goodness with panache and wicked humor added for good measure. features an even more immersive (if it weren't for the cultural referenes) and interactive world than that seen in fallout.
7. Doom II: Hell on Earth
the shotgun, which was the best weapon in town (and remains so even today), gets an upgrade. what more needs to be said? the revenant? mancubus? arch-vile? yes, all good reasons to love doom even more the second time around.
8. X-Com: UFO Defense
beautiful blend of turn-based combat and real-time strategy with rpg elements thrown in for good measure. this game was so good that the sequel, x-com: terror from the deep, basically was the same game and was praised for being just that - the same game.
9. Half-Life 2: Episode 2
the best of valve merged into 5 extremely tight, marvelous hours. features the best end battle to boot. forces the player to use the gravity gun even more, and nothing but good comes from that.
10. Red Baron
the deep career campaign alone is enough; added to that is realistic simulation (for its time) and awesome dogfighting and the best manual of all time.
1. Homeworld
2. Company of Heroes
3. The Operative: No One Lives Forever
4. Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast
5. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl
6. Call of Duty
7. System Shock 2
8. Warhammer 40, 000: Dawn of War: Dark Crusade
9. Warcraft 3
10: Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2
I honestly wish that I remembered #3 and #4 when I did my favourite games list a few months ago.... those two reek of awesomeness.
Also, I don't like the CnC series in general, but RA2 was the peak of quality from that franchise, and I think it's a superb game.
1. Doom
2. Doom 2
3. Doom 3
4. Duke Nukem 3D
5. Serious Sam
6. Serious Sam 2
7. Painkiller
8. Postal 2
I stopped at eight because I couldn't think of any good games.I shall do my top 5 :)
1) Crysis
Simply my favourite FPS game on the market at the moment. It's beautiful, plays like a dream and is for the most part non-linear. Can't wait for Warhead.
2) Supreme Commander
An amazing RTS game, I am shocked that more people don't like it. Its scale is amazing, and you can't win by just rushing with a billion units, you need to co-ordinate your units and micromanage their attacks.
3) Half Life 2: Episode 2
Best thing to come out of Half Life 2 so far IMO.
4) Oblivion
I know there are lots of people who hate this game, and I fully understand why, but I disagree. I love Oblivion for the Action-RPG that it is, with it's large world that I just want to explore every inch of and suprisingly good storyline.
5) Lost Planet: Extreme Condition
Okay, okay, bare with me here. I can't back this game up as being one of the best games on the PC but still, I loves it xDIt's beautiful, fairly well optimised (For some reason my 2.2ghz dual core processor and 7600Gs can run it at a constant 30 fps) and it has a very arcadey feel to it. AND IT HAS A BLOODY GRAPPLING HOOK. Grappling Hooks, like carriers, = Instant Win
1. Doom
2. Doom 2
3. Doom 3
4. Duke Nukem 3D
5. Serious Sam
6. Serious Sam 2
7. Painkiller
8. Postal 2

World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade
The Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall

1)Doom 2

willzcool
Starcraft ( it sequel will replace it soon most likely :p)
X-COM
Battlefield 2
Crysis
Sins of a Solar Empire
Mass Effect
And I guess I can include COD4 even though I actually decided to buy that for the 360 instead
For me the top 10 of the moment would be.....
1. Deus Ex - A fantastic blend of RPG, action, and adventure. Very few other games have even come close.
2. Thief Series - The only true stealth game on the market. You don't know what real tension is until a passes within inches of your hiding place and pauses right next to you.
3. Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Ahm - One of the best Dungeons & Dragons games on the market.
4. Guild Wars - A MMO where the grind has been minimized in favor of the adventure. It gives me hope for the future of the genre.
5. Civilization - I could play this game all night long. This is from a guy who usually avoids strategy games.
6. Ultima VII: The Black Gate - The Ultima games where truely groundbreaking in their design. From Ultima IV on there were no warlords to unseat and no crazy wizards to slay. The ultimate goal of the game was always somewhere else. This one starts with a murder investigation and grows to something epic.
7. Planescape: Torment - Oh, man. Coolest RPG story ever.
8. Fallout - Post nuclear war sweetness. More RPG's should be like this.
9. Age of Mythology - A second strategy game has made my list. Maybe I should try more of them.
10. Bookworm - Simple gameplay. Addictive fun. No SLI requirement. A game for ALL computers.
In no particular order and not a complete list (just the top of my head, I've played many good games).
Baldur's Gate series, Dungeon Keeper 2, System Shock 2, Diablo 2, Titan Quest, Far Cry, Universe at War, Starcraft, Morrowind, Unreal Tournament 2004, Final Fantasy 7 and 8, Breath of Fire 4 and perhaps many more I can't think of for now.
