Sylvari was the only race I played during the beta, and sure, I liked them. The personal story was pretty cool.
As a concept I love the Sylvari. The one I will actually plan to start with is human, since I sort of want to treat the first character I make as a descendent of my Guild Wars character.

I'm going for human too for the same reason...

Absolutely not, but I suppose mine will be more of a successor than a decendant.
so i'm not alone? :P[QUOTE="BrunoBRS"][QUOTE="Whiteblade999"]

i like humans enough to not make it the only reason, but it's a reason :PI was gonna say engineer would be the most fun class, I'm not quite sure why a particular race would be more fun than another race.
That might make a certain race more interesting than another one, but how does that make it more fun?
Fun means gameplay changes.
I only played Sylvari and I pretty much only like Sylvari, the other races are ok, but I can't stand Char.DanielDustthats OK, you will find some reason to start bashing the game soon anyhow
as for me.... i like norn. something about a gigantic 10ft tall viking seems bad ass to me.

How much of a pathetic loser do you have to be to stop posting around this forum and just stalk a person? rhetorical question I know reporting trolling spam is useless, but you're just too much of an idiot not to report for this spam.

one race might have a story that isn't fun for you, and another has. fun has to do with enjoyment, not gameplay mechanics. and some people enjoy certain races, and don't enjoy others. That might make a certain race more interesting than another one, but how does that make it more fun?

Speaking of looks, does anyone know more about how the armor sets function? I saw some type of sets of Sylvari and information on how armor is implemented is pretty random, for example does the look change with more advanced sets? or end sets are identical in stats, but with multiple styles to choose from? or maybe you can keep to a certain set you like and upgrade it towards the best sets? Most of the Sylvari sets I managed to find around the net look great, but some of them are insanely awesome and it would be great if you'd be able to choose to stick to one type of set while advancing with the general level of the gear.DanielDust
I'm pretty sure the armor has a level range. It does change for sure though, the armor you see on character creation is completely different from what you start with. If you want to use the same armor design as you level up you will have to convert gold into gems and grab transmutation stones.

if you have a set with the stats you like, but want the look of another set, you can buy (with karma or gems) a transmutation stone, which is a consumable that gives one armor the appearance of another, while retaining the stats.
Thanks, glad you're able to change the appearance with another set, was worried that, worst case scenarion, the gear would change completely at a certain gear quality level like in other games, or that it'd start like WoW and sometimes later (sadly) it'd offer a way to change, but glad it's available from the start. Some of the Sylvari sets, even if generally good, are terrible on male characters and some are terrible on female chracters. Now I'm also considering making an Asura warrior, just to make it more exciting till I finish the area I already completed for Sylvari during the last beta, those Asura heavy sets are gorgeous @_@.DanielDusti wanted to make an asura ele just because of the tier 3 light armor :P but i couldn't stand the ele, and i don't like the other two light armor cIasses either >.>
BTW, those cultural armor sets are available at level 35, 60 and 80, respectively. though if you have the coin, you can always just buy it and use the transmutation stone to get the looks of it and the stats of a lower-level armor :P

Wow, you must feel really bad now that you're offering me so much attention, but I guess you would be butthurt since I do pick on all the morons that I see around here and you're one of the worst of them, I'd gladly be a prick if it's to show morons how idiotic they are, stick to the thread troll, go do something pathetic in other regions of this forum, for example, you should totally make a moronic Diablo 3 sucks thread, a game you never played, just to fill your worthless time. you do realize that posts like this make YOU look like the idiot right? oh right, you cant be bothered. i forgot for a minute.

correction: they're 10ft tall drunk werebear mountain vikings. rofl.... even more bad ass.I was sure I was going with Charr, but after 2 Betas their starting area just seems dull to me. Then I saw the Human City, DAT CITY MAN !!! Amazing. I do also like those cute small things whatever they are called. I imagine one as a Necromancer.... small cute evil thing, hahahahahaha.FelipeInsidepick the race based on looks and the personal story you like the most. if you don't like a starting area, you can just move out of it.
and the "cute small things" are called asuras :P i have a friend playing an asura necromancer, thing looks like the devil spit. here's him screaming at bunnies (which is totally a thing in GW2):
i cant believe nobody else wants to be a giant shapeshifting bad ass.... everyone wants to be generic humans? am i in the twilight zone?WizardGlassHumans look great in armor so I could see why some people might want to go with that to be "safe." Plus, I hear that people like the human starting area. Right now, I'm either going with Char, Human, or Asura, so I might not roll Human. I think it will come down to Asura or Charr. Don't get me wrong, the viking-nordic-warrior-loving part of me want to choose Norn but I'm not crazy about how they look. They look more like bulky cartoon characters out of a Saturday morning cartoon when they should look like Viking badasses. The females are okay, but the male Norn looks "off." -imho-
^^ Hahhahhaha... I'm starting to like them more and more. Now I have to think of a name....that's the hardest part.FelipeInside
I use a set of names with all the MMOs I play, and guaranteed to not be used or thought of by others. :D They always work. I'm creative like that. ;P
Here's dungeon armors and stuff that you guys might want to look at. I know character appearances are very important to some players so be sure to check out how your race will look in their respective armor. Remember, it's [Light, Medium, Heavy] armor based, not by class. Guild Wars 2 couldn't come any sooner... :x

i got you covered as far as lore-friendly names go, for any race.
yes i'm a very bored person with too much time and hype in my hands to have all these links lying around.

Nice Nice... all I need now is a Generator. Or does the game have inbuilt name generator?i cant believe nobody else wants to be a giant shapeshifting bad ass.... everyone wants to be generic humans? am i in the twilight zone?WizardGlassi'll most likely have a norn guardian at some point, i just don't want to go overkill and use up 5 slots at launch.

took a while to find (i got sidetracked :P), but there we go:
all cultural armor sets (aka race-exclusive sets);
all dungeon armor sets.
all in horrible, HORRIBLE dye colors, but what can you do.
