Well the Australian magazine PCPP have done it again and have awarded 8/10.

Stating:

Good: Great game engine, more diverse enemies, more in your face.

Bad: Corridor-Filled Quarter, Questionable AI, More in your face

Conclusion: A definite step up from the first: a worthy successor.

Sounds promising, especially the more "in your face" aspect to the game.

Maybe the horror level has been stepped up a bit?

ya, thats my guess. Im definately buying it as FEAR is one of my favorite shooters.

Still, my only complaint is the art direction they took with Alma. She was scarier when she didnt have such an identity and was just this black-haired little girl. Now she has a face, eyes, etc and it makes her too human.

I loved the demo, however.

Yeah but paradoxically enough, FEAR 2 is much scarier than the first.. The game reminds me ALOT like Condemned.. Which is great, its the apoclypic enviroment where I just don't know wha the hell is going on.. Imo I am sick of these scary games, or apoclypic games spoon feeding you the crap, when really that is not what would happen in real life.. And I have my theories about the maincharacter, I still think he is the point man.. Monilith wouldn't make such a break from the game.. They had no reason to..

There wasn't really a main character at all in the first game so it wouldn't matter much on the contrary.

Well the Pointman not only explained your connection to Alma, but as well as the reason why she couldn't directly harm you in the game.. Intill the end of course.. Not to mention the bullet times and the flashbacks.. Becket really doesn't explain why Alma can't directly kill him like he can do with the other people, or why he has the bullet time powers like the point man did.

SPOILERS: Alma was his mother. So what? They didn't tell us anything else. The only explanation for bullet time similarly was that his skills were off the charts!

No... the explaination was the fact you were the child of Alma.. That the psychic powers she had passed to you in the creation of a super soldier.. That your gifts were not only able to protect you from Alma but your amazingly fast nearly 6th sense like bulle ttime.. Hence why Alma's father says "You will be a god among men".. You were infact a bred super soldier.. Nah they explained more than that if you read the phone calls etc etc.. IMO I thought the story just fine and quite ingenious.. I am honeslty sick with the theatatric way stories must be presented to be "good".. When really I find more realistic mysteries to be far more interesting.. these days people seem to think good story are ones that are spoon fed to you in every way.

Fear 2 goes from being creepy fps to playing a robot shooting **** up, it should have just been on foot FPS imo. instead i get in a robot suit playing Star Wars.

I think this is around the score it's going to be getting as more reviews come in, in my opinion you could kinda tell just from the demos and videos that it was good but not....great

Wait, what? I've barely played Oblivion, but Far Cry 2 10/10? Dayum. I thought it was good, but not freakin' perfect lawl. Reminds me of Eurogamer style reviews. I might get FEAR 2, I'm not a huge fan of the first one but I did enjoy it.

I expect 8-8.5 to be the norm for this game. It's got a few flaws but overall I think it'll be a great game. This AI thing though is funny, some people hate it some love it, some reviewers have praised it some have trashed it, interesting. And how can the more in your face thing be a negative, a lot of the complaints from FEAR 1 was that it wasn't in your face and scary enough. Guess the masses may never be pleased.

i agree with the reviews, oblivion and farcry 2 were very good games, i knew fear would not be as good when i saw the gameplay trailer.

If this game has too much of the mech walking crap I'm going to fail it. PCPP couldn't review themselves out of a wet paper bag.

Haha, didn't you know that's one of the chief determining factors for video game scores now? You thought it was worth a 5, but you didn't account for the in-your-faceness, which brings it up to an 8.

i really miss all the smoke that would happen after or during a thick firefight. It was just an "awe" moment felt like you were in a movie. It was the games "thing" i guess you could say. And I agree that Alma isn't as scary as before. Shes not as mysterious as fear 1. Also the AI seems to be lacking. I do like how Alma does get in your face more though.

For something to be a worthy successor it has to improve on its predecessor or at least be on par.

So much was taken out and toned down in FEAR 2 I don't know how it can be called a 'worthy successor', did they even mention the lack of lean?

The new PCPP is out? Damn I forgot about it. Seems like a good critical review. Which is great, as their reviews had been rather off lately (*cough* Far Cry 2).

I played the demo a few weeks ago and have mixed thoughts.

The thing that I can't understand is how Monolith and the testers have been oblivious to the consolized feel of the PC version. Valve managed to make the Orange Box multi-platform while keeping the consistency of the previous titles, whereas FEAR 2 seems to have suffered from it.

Has the lean ability been cut because controllers don't have enough keys to implement it? Graphically it looks alright, but it seems like they have had to hold back due to the consoles.

I can understand they want to make as much money as possible by making it multi-platform, but I feel frustrated by the lack of innovation that comes as a result of it.

That's a respectable score. I'll buy it.
