Played the demo and finished and here is what i think:

  • nothing new here
  • recycled graphics
  • same ol' claustorphobic feeling (not a good thing since you might got used to it in the predecessor games, IMO)
  • its like Blue-Shift is to Half-Life, same thing from another angle...

other than that i didnt notice anything else that stood out as "WOW", so even if anything else
is added in the full version i seriously doubt it make a huge difference in the end...

this game might walk away with 7.5, and im being generous here...

what about ur opinions?

Heh.... It is an expansion, not FEAR 2. It seems like thats what to expect from an expansion.

Project O.R.I.G.I.N is FEAR 2.

i'm skipping the demo, waiting on the full game - but i am of the opinion that it is impossible to make a bad game in the f.e.a.r engine

provided timegate puts enemies in and remembers to leave the ai switched on, i don't see how it'll be a bad game

more of the same for sure, and while i'm hardly an advocate of recycling in games - when we're talking about one of the best fps games ever made (as per my own opinion), i don't have a problem with more of the same

project origin will also be more of the same - albeit in a different engine, with different weapons, a different hud and a different scenario - but still the same old gameplay we love (half of us, anyway)

extration point was great, and i expect great things from perseus mandate too - but it is still just an expansion, it's still just the same game we've already played... but for those buying it, that's what we want

I won't be buying this. I'm waiting for the real fear 2(origin) that will have Monoliths continuation of the story. The first expansion was pretty meh for me and I don't want to get one story from one version and a different one from another.

It's an expansion. It also wasn't created by the original developers of FEAR. Monolith is working on Project ORIGIN, which is supposed to be "FEAR 2" in essense, even though the FEAR ip is not owned by them anymore.

I'll likely be buying this because I like the action, but the whole Alma and the clones concept has gotten old. They should have finished that off. You have this FEAR team and what they should do is create new unique missions.

Prolly will in Project Origin. Can't wait to play that :) CoD 4 should own everything though.

I liked it personally. Half life 2 brought out the exact same game engine in its expansions and are great fun to play today. The graphics arn't beefed up, but they graphics don't bother me any. Now I can max it out at a high resolutuion. Fear is a classic, and its kind of annoying when Publishers push things to thier limit to get the most out of the product, but def understandable.

It should also be noted, though this game may not have any major improvements over its predecessor, it is going to be a `standalone` game, so for people who keep sayign expansion, if you dont know, the original fear is not required to play this game. I myself am looking forward to it, and well likely end up picking it up when i get Cod 4 and Gears on November 6th when they all come out the same day.

Creepy sounds, easy to use keyboard controls, lots of blood and gore, much crouching and shooting. I think FEAR is a great game. This expansion is more of the same fun. I too...will pass and wait for FEAR 2.

That 17 minutes of Fear 2-Project originvideo looked almost exacly like the original Fear, so why not also buy the new expansion?

I thought it was pretty fun. I like the graphics (even though they are dated) and the fact that it runs insanely good on my PC only helps to enhance the experience further.

Not the FEAR IP. Simply the FEAR name. They own all the characters, settings, and everything else in FEAR except the title. If sierra ever decides to make a FEAR 2, they're going to have to start from scratch and trash anything used from the original FEAR in terms of characters(alma), story, etc.

That's a legitimate question. I might buy the expansion. I didn't mean to make it sound like I didn't like the demo. On the contrary, I thought it was "more of the same fun". Which is a very good thing. FEAR was a lot of fun for me, and so was the demo.

Bottom line: There are so many potentially great games coming out this next year that I'm a little at a loss as to what to buy and play next. I guess I'm just thinking of trimming fat, cutting out the excess.

Question is, will I really do that?

Answer is, probably not.
