I know that it is only the demo, but come on people! This demo doesn't lead me to believe that FEAR 2 is an improvement over the first one.
AI is just as good - now they can make cover, but that's about it. They're actually slower moving then they were in the first one. Have you ever tried to play FEAR without using your slowmo? It gets really tough in some spots. I went through about 90% of the demo without using slowmo....the game just feels slow compared to the first one.
Graphics are a notch better and it's nice that I can max everything out on my PC, just like I could with the first one.
You can carry more weapons this time around (if I remember correctly) and you get a slew of grenades, but they're not quite a fun to play with as the nades were in the first one.
The story unfolds the same way, bits of random flashes of crazy video and the attempt to be scary - which it's not, just like the first one.
Controls....I have to keep telling myself that this is a demo because the controls irritate me. I've got a 5 button mouse and in the first FEAR game, I could utilize all 5 buttons: Mouse 1 = fire, Mouse 2 = Zoom, Mouse 3 = flashlight, Mouse 4 = Melee, Mouse 5 = Slowmo. But in FEAR 2, you can't make use of Mouse 4 and 5. You can only bind Mouse 1-3, thus leaving me to try and bind out my other keys best as possible and most comfortable as possible....I'm not impressed. Hopefully in the final game we're allowed to make use of all our mouse buttons. Also, I want to say that you could lean left and right in the first fear, but you can't do so in the second one (correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't played the first FEAR in over a year)
Overall, I pretty much felt like I was playing the origianl FEAR, but with better graphics. I'm not terribly impressed. From the demo, I'd give FEAR 2 a 6/10. maybe the full, finished game will house some improvements and the game will kick arse. I'm going to pass on this game and wait for it to fall in price before I bother picking up a copy.
