i dont really want to start any console and PC war but i have a question. F.E.A.R. is one of the most graphicly demanding games on all MAX settings right now, im sure we can all agree on that. Is the Xbox 360 or the PS3 powerful enough to run FEAR on all Max setting at 40+ fps? Or does a PC with a Core 2 duo, 2 gig of ram, and a X1950pro beat it in fps and look better?

Lmao, while FEAR does look good on consoles, like all games, it is capable of looking and running better on PC. I'm pretty sure your rig will handle FEAR fine maxed, or at least close. Then again I'm not familiar with ATI cards, so I'm not exactly sure. But consoles generally don't have that great of framerates, and some of the games admitably look good, but PC is always capable of doing better.

I've played both the360 version and the PC ver. with maxed graphic settings. And...

While F.E.A.R.looks good on PC,it looks a bit better on 360. And I'd be damned if it didn't, since it came out a full year later for 360. Anyway, 360 ran it perfectly smooth all the way through. And your PC will definitelyrun it smoothly in all situations.

I would go by your TV.. It's an older game and I'm sure anything can max it out, now (except the PC can probably handle way more affects and sparks and all that stuff), but if you have a huge HDTV and all that crap, then play it there.. IF you have a crappy little TV like mine that's barely bigger than your crystal-clear LCD with all that stuff, then go with the PC.

Well I am pretty convinced that the 360 could've ran F.E.A.R. with soft shadowing, yet it seems that feature was left out either because the 360 really couldn't handle it with stability or they were just too lazy. But also I've noticed on PC, F.E.A.R. refuses to run both anti-aliasing and soft shadowing at the same time, when I set FSAA with soft shadows, the soft shadows don't show up, but the FSAA does.

Do I have to force FSAA through my graphics settings menu on my desktop?

lol, no offence but are you serious? the 360 version of FEAR doesnt look nearly as good as the PC version. I have to give it to the console, it runs it very smooth, but the PC version looks far better. for one, the textures dont look as crisp as a high end PC running it, and i think the lighting looks better on the PC, but that might be debatable.

btw, Topic Creator, your PC is pretty much the same as mine (your video card is a bit better), and i run FEAR on max at 1680x1050 (with a minimum FPS of 32). so your all set.

Yeah it will run great on your pc but I believe if you play it on a console then it looks best on the Xbox 360 the PS3 to me is just a piece of krap that no one can afford. And you can make your pc greater and play it I guess but I don't believe you will see any difference with the pc you have.

this is really funny to me because I've always thought FEAR was a well-optimized game.

Back in the day I had a P4 2.8GHz, 1GB memory, and a 6600GT and the game ran smoothly at 1024x768. Granted I had to turn lighting and shadows to low, but everything else was on high.

Also, I was watching Xplay the other day and they did not like FEAR for the consoles. I know Xplay lacks a lot of credibility, but some of their points were valid iirc.

You have a lot of credibility, too, mr '360ismylife'. Not only that, but there's a pretty low chance that you've seen the same PC version running on the same PC with the same specs and same optimized PC settings as this guy has.

Like I said though, despite the fact that 99% of games have much better graphics than any form of current console at this time, it may or may not look better on 360.. It may be magical and run in a 3d high resolution hologram. The point is, however.. That I'm pretty sure there's a difference between this guy's PC screen and his TV, and he should go by that. That'll have multiples more of an affect on how good it will look, unless he just wants to buy the one that 'officially has more textures' or whatever, and doesn't care about how it actually physically looks, but only cares about the status..

-

And more than that.. Think about things that are like.. multiple times more important, like.. The difference between the controller and a mouse and keyboard is huge, and decide which you'd prefer.. And is there a large modding community for this game or not.. And does it have a history of bugs and stuff? The multiplayer community? If you get the 360 version, and can play online with it, then you can play FEAR online with both your 360 friends, and download the free online FEAR Combat game and play multiplayer FEAR with your PC friends as well. Open your miiiind, boy

Easy there buddy, he may not be "one of us" [pc gamers] but that doesnt mean he is wrong. If anything, he is right...FEAR would look better on the 360 than a three year old low- to mid-range gaming PC most of us have.

ok I have a ATI X1650XT AGP, 1.5GB DDR266, and a AMD athlon 642GHz 3000+. and heres a video of how well that game runs on a system like mine, and your system is waybetter than mine.this video is recorded in a low resolution to reduse the file size. I run F.E.A.R. at 800x600 maxed without FSAA and AF just billinear filtering w/ soft shadows.

I agree with you. I played FEAR demo on my pc (GeForce 6600, amd athlon 64 2ghz 1 gb ddr ram) with high settings on 1240x1024 and it still looked better than FEAR demo on X360, still though my TV isnt that kcik ass, but Ive seen those FEAR X360 videos and all. Even my friend who plays games on all platforms (meaning= no fanboy, neither am I) says that "every game that is on consoles looks better on PC, but games like Guitar Hero or GTA will always be the legends of consoles." I really agree with him, even I loved GTA SA on PC. The PS3 version didnt look any impressive at all, at least in the videos Ive seen.

"The 360 version runs smooth with great lighting and textures.I've seen the pc version and it looks better on 360. "
- Judging by your name and your eyes, I recommend you to go see a doctor, you might have a start of blindness or just talking bs. (sorry for bad english).

"FEAR would look better on the 360 than a three year old low- to mid-range gaming PC most of us have."
- My PC is pretty old if it has 6600GT :D. Though it still looks better on my PC than my X360, dont get mewrong I love my Xbobbie ;>, but I cant say its better than my PC in the way of gaming as I see it more comfortable to use mouse and keyboard than gamepad. I run Half-life 2 on maximum with everything on with a little lag sometimes, but If I change it to 1024x768 resolution I can play it with no lag.

PC will always look better with any game, unless the console version releases much much later. I've got a radeon x1950 Pro and I think it looks great! I haven't totally seen it on a console though...but I'm a PC gamer...always have been.

Actually, I have more problems with S.T.A.L.K.E.R. than I ever did with F.E.A.R. Or issues, I guess...instead of problems. It's just that STALKER isn't totally optimized for ATI cards yet, so my computer lags and stutters with it (not very often though) right now. Not a big deal...it would help if I got another gig of RAM though :/
