I found it hard to follow yes. Especially because you couldn't hear the voices well even with the volume pumped up..frizzyman0292
Lol actually yeah...I had a hard time hearing them, unless I had my headphones on. Even then...
I wasn't sure if i was the only person that had that issue and i even have sweet speakers..frizzyman0292
Lol yeah, and my motherboard even came with HD quality audio...which makes games like FEAR and CoD 2 sound extremely awesome.
I liked the story, though I wouldnt call it GREAT. And it wasnt hard to follow, in the end everything made sense for me
The story played out pretty much like Final Fantasy VII with a japanese horror girl attached to it. and the way the story progressed mainly through voice mails was pretty retarded. i thought it was pretty cliched and if thrown into a movie, the movie would bombsmerlus
I didn't realy think the voice mails told much of the story. they where used to add another scare aspect to the game. Most of them had nothing useful to say and whether you listened to them or not was completeley up to you.

actually you'd be surprised on how much the voice mails and lap tops tell you. i found them much more informative than the cut scenes but... it's stupid to have the major plot twists revealed through them

How the hell do you figure that?

how did i figure out which one? that the game is like final fantasy VII with Japanese horror
or using paramilitary and japanese horror mixed while having a plot that is similar to something like the ringwould bomb?

I didnt think the story of FEAR was anything great. Decent, but forgettable. I bought FEAR for the gunfights not an epic story :P
But i do have to wonder, why did you find the story progression via voice mails bad? I thought it was a very good idea considering you can skip most of the story if you choose to instead of being forced to watch cutscenes detailing it out. If the player was interested he can go to the laptops and get more, if not he will just move on.

I actually like stories and on my first play through i just ran through it, didn't listen to most of the calls/lap tops and found out i didn't know what just went on for how ever long i played it. then when i went back through to try to get more story out of it, i noticed i actually had to search for the phones/ laptops... i didn't like the idea to get the story down, i had to look for it.
but you're right, being force fed cutscenes probably would have broken the action in the game. I don't know, i was just underwhelmed, it may also have to do with the fact that i just played through Condemned for the 3rd time before i bought FEAR and was expecting a game with that kind of story and atmosphere
I wonder if Dragon Warrior 1 was decent storyline wise..
Wolf 3D .. storyline.. nill
really.. besides "modern" RPG games.. (excluding MMOs) what game has an "original" "epic" storyline?
I find them very hard to find really.. most storylines are rehashed anime movie type deals or hollywood-inspired.
What should matter to anyone.. is the gameplay and the graphical representation.. (refering to the old Graphic Wh*res" thread). True, a storyline is a plus.. but storylines in games are like storylines in p0rn .. not necessary.

Yeah. I've played through Final Fantasy VII. I don't see how FEAR is anything remotely similiar to FFVII.
Well, FEAR's representation in terms of graphics and nice scenes was IMHO a lot better that it's story.
A lot of worn out motives in FEAR sadly.
Most of all, I strongly dislike the little gril element, which will be also featured in BioShock, as was written by GS.
Sad.
But I agree with the statement, that FPS's are a little like porn, the plot mostly is optional, if the gameplay and all else is lovely.
Still, I know I would play more when games had better stories than 'oh my evil someone and his crazy invention gonna make doomsday happen, now I have to go rambo, save chick, kill everybody + mad scientist.'

I had that problem as well. Actually i find that to be a problem with quite a lot of games.
Personally i though FEAR had a great storyline... although it was a little confusing at times.

they both have this genetically superior female in which they start a program to produce super soldiers... one of them is thrown out for being inferior, one is declared superior but goes crazy along the way, destroying everything in his path to free his "mother"
in the end the inferior spawn proves to be the better man.
it's the exact same plot structure as Final Fantasy VII, just different characters, different setting and Final Fantasy was a little more witty about the situation; explaining jenova was an alien, Cloud had false memories... things like that.

Oh, LOL. I guess that's kind of true. Well, I thought they presented the story well at least. I still liked it. I mean, take away all the things that can relate to it and you have a good storyline right (that's just hard to follow is all). First person shooters or not, games these days need good storylines. Like Halo, for example (Halo haters hold thine breath). I really liked the story in Halo and I'm disappointed that I have to buy Vista if I ever want to play Halo 2 on the PC. And I'll never do that unless I absolutely have to ;)
[QUOTE="Darth_Kane"]There was barely a story ( like almost every FPS )gamerchris810
u havent played many games fps's then.
If you think FPSs have great stories, then you probably haven't played anything beside FPSs and RTSs. Almost every other genre has better stories ( RPGs, adventure games, third person shooters, even racing games ) . The only story in a FPS is shoot and kill as many as you can. The only FPS that has a good story is Chronicles of Riddick: Escpe from Buther Bay .

Buddy. If you think the only good storylines are RPGs and Adventure titles, then you need a newsflash. Also, it's a bold opinion that RPGs and Adventure types are the only ones with good storylines. If you remember, NOTHING had a good storyline when gaming was created...or not much of a storyline. Did you see Pong running around like, "I MUST DEFEAT YOU BY BATTING THIS BALL PAST YOU IN ORDER TO REGAIN HONOR TO MY LOST FAMILY AND LAND!"
Halo has a good storyline. I hear Half Life has an awesome storyline. Metroid Prime has a great storyline. Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War has a superb storyline (it's Warhammer). Starcraft and Warcraft are also obvious choices (this doesn't include World of Warcraft; it's an MMORPG...not a solid single player title). And then there's F.E.A.R...I thought it had a decently good storyline. I really enjoyed it, actually. While most people say the storyline sucks (or some people at least), I thought it was very intense/engaging for those who understood/caught it.
The Call of Duty series (save CoD 3) was awesome as well...but that's a historic shooter, so it was bound to have a good storyline (I don't know if we were just talking ficitonal good storylines or what). My point is, you can't be so ignorant as to suggest no good storyline has ever been birthed from an FPS title or RTS (or anything not RPG/Adventure). Games, RPG or not, have storylines. It doesn't matter what the gameplay is. It's a fact...almost a common sense that any type of genre can be capable of having a good storyline. I think you are just basing your opinions on games that have not-so-good plots and characters.
