DDO is completely terrible, whereas FFXI is only moderately terrible.

If you are bored gaining levels in WoW then FF XI is not for you. The game is only for the hardcore people, it takes a very long time to progress in this game. Basically two times longer than in WoW.

By sick of dinging I meant I have hit 70 too many times. so it's just the thought of something new.

Out of the 2, I've only played DDO. I hated it! It was 1 of only 2 MMO demos I ever tried and didn't get into. I grew up playing AD&D, and I love mmo's but I honestly found DDO to be a total waste of the licensing.

If I were to recommend other options I would say try Everquest II or LotR: Online.

DDO, I own both, FFXI is to slow for me, Try the trial for DDO, itsa great game IMO. the graphics are nice and the quests are fun and the combat is awesome, and when i played the community was great and the VOIP in parties is a great touch.

I agree with the above poster, EQ2 or LOTRO would be your better choices for a casual game because honestly FFXI is insanely hardcore. Its almost on par with Lineage 2 where it will take years for a casual player to reach max level whereas in wow you can do that in a couple months. If levels don't matter to you however then FFXI can be a rewarding experience and there is no rerolling in the game because you can simply change your class whenever you want. As for D&DO i hear nothing but bad things about it so I wouldn't even bother.

You only hear bad things about DDO is cause its to hard and story driven for the casual player. But theyve changed that since first months of release and LOTRO is bscly DDO except dumbed down and made into a open world which is an improvment, too bad LOTRO sucks compared to DDO. Made by the same people, same interface, etc etc

DDO is all about instance gaming, with a party of adventurers. If you have a decent enough group of people to play with it can be some of the best fantasy adventuring online. Its combat mechanics are based around a twitch model with DnD stats backing up the hits. So you get to swing your sword, and strafe the monsters, and actually block using your shield. Its very hands on. Unlike the majority of MMO's out there, where its tap keys to fire special attacks. DDO does follow DnD rules (well the Eberron campaign) so levelling is quite different to your average MMO. I must stress, if you play the game without a decent set of players, you'll find some pickup groups just rush instances, and don't play through it in a considered and enjoyable fashion. As with all instance games, if you have bad group members, you'll probably have a bad experience of the instance.

FFXI seemed to me to be more of same as far as MMO goes, a bit too much grind.

If you're looking for something different DDO is probably the best bet.
