I hooked up my PS2 to my LCD TV w/ Component cables, and tried to play Final Fantasy 7

The playstation logo boots up fine, i get the "Sony Computer Entertainment Presents"

But then when the squaresoft logo comes up, and the new game/continue menu - the whole screen is shifted like 2 feet to the right, and the colors are all off.

I know this is the cause, because i tried after with regular AV cables and it was positioned fine - but then the image comes in letterbox and is very jagged and low res of course.

Is there anyway to get this game to run properly on an LCD using a PS2 with component cables? I tried messing around with the disc drive speed as well as the texture mapping settings in the PS2 menu, but didn't expect those would do anything.

Help me! I really wanted to play through this game again and I don't want it to look any worse than it already does.

Thanks

Bob: Try going into System Configuration and changing the component output setting from YCbCr to RGB (or vice-versa) and see if that does anything.

nooblet: Under the XMB, go to Settings > Game Settings and pick PS/PS2 Upscaler. Try changing that setting to "Normal".

so your saying your able to play this game through component or HD cables and the screen isnt all messed up?

as for the aspect ratio thing, its a low res game being played on an HD tv, it's native format is 4:3 thats why you're getting it - same deal as the Xbox Originals for download on the 360 - they're all in 4:3 unless otherwise specified

You know:

Go into "Display Settings"-Upscaling-Set it to "Yes".

I played Final Fantasy 9 after doing this, and the game actually looked better.

if you were referring to me im playing it on a ps2 - thus no upscaling

yeah so now i tried hooking it up to my projection tv with the component cables, set to 16:9 - and it looked and played fine, the image was actually full screen.

guess its just my LCD TV....shame

i tried the RGB thing, just gave me a black screen and said incompatible

this is BS all the PS2 games work fine but when try a PS1 the screen goes all screwy.

i guess FF7 is just incompatible through a component connection
