Im running Crysis on very high settings at a steady and very playable framerate. I just installed a Sapphire 4870 and this card kicks ace. Wanted to thank whomever recommended it to me from the thread I made a couple weeks ago about upgrading because Im not sure it gets much better than this. Admittedly though, Left 4 Dead has grabbed my attention more than Crysis has with the sweet looking blood splattered walls when you blow away zombies with the shotty and the awesome lighting effects when you light up an incoming horde with a molotov cocktail. Well anyways, sorry for a sorta pointless thread but I am really happy with the video card and really couldnt have asked for more. I now see why PC games own any console games in the graphics department.

For $229, you can get the 4890 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102841 It also has vapor x cooling. this is assuming you told him to get the 2gb card that was $250 on the top of the list?

It is, but all the best gaming experiences that I've had have been by far the best on a PC.

I've played a ton of different console games, and I own a 360, but PC games have always been the most fun and memorable. Diablo, StarCraft, Half-Life, Team Fortress, Counter-Strike, Tribes, WOW, Unreal Tournament, Total War series, Civ 4, Battlefield 2, etc, etc.

The games are just more epic, look better, are bigger (in terms of scale, map size, features, etc). They have better communities, mods, and are always at the forefront of technological development.

Not too mention all the other things that you can do with a PC. E-mail, online chat, internet surfing, videos, movies, music, creating digital media, etc, etc.

I'm getting ready to buy my new PC. Diablo 3, StarCraft 2, and The Old Republic should keep me busy for a long long time.

Yes I have experienced the same time frames in gaming as you have my friend. Unreal Tournament was my first real taste of the mayhem that is being online. However ive always been the guy with the watered down graphics and 2nd to highest (if not the highest)ping in the game. So my experience throughout pc gaming, though fun, has been ratherlimited. I have played the diablo series and alot of those games you listed, but up until now I can really experience a much greater experience. So in other words, I most definitely agree.

We got alot of hardware in common except for it being overclocked etc ;). I got the same res at about a steady 25 FPS. Im guessing you get a better framerate due to overclocking? All I know is that its very playable and I dont notice much lag. BTW Here is a link to my monitor http://www.viewsonic.com/products/desktop-monitors/lcd/x-series/vx1940w.htmw
