I typically don't have many problems with computers that I can't solve right off the bat, but this is one of them. Yesterday, after looking at a bunch of flash videos off riske' sites (though not any different than I've been doing for years and haven't been given problems), Firefox 3.5 has been crashing and bringing my computer down with it. When navigating to a new page/link, 1/10 times, Firefox with either crash outright, or freeze my computer to the point of where I can't even bring up the task manager (but I can move around my mouse). At that point I'm forced to restart.

I've run a bunch of scans and they didn't pick anything up. Any idea what it could be?

Try re-installing it.

I recently had a problem with firefox that i later found out was caused by an add that used shockwave flash. It brought down performance of my whole pc and made it completely unresponsive at times (mouse still moved too). Don't know if your problem is the same but you could try updating your plug-ins or see if disabling them in the add-ons menu helps.

I tried uninstalling/reinstalling Flash and all I can say is: no beans. I went into the crash logs and the crash signature mentions kernell32.dll being the problem.

Other versions crash too. Weird. And now when it crashes, it doesn't freeze up my whole PC. But when I was trying to play Starcraft earlier, my PC froze up. Doesn't make sense.

Open up command console and type "sfc.exe /scannow", this will check the integrity of your Windows files and replace as necessary, you can also run CHKDSK.

Sfc.exe /scannow immediately asks me to put in my "Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD", even though all I have is a Windows XP Pro cd. I put that in and it doesn't work.

Yeah, it only prompts for the disk if you have something that needs to be replaced because it's corrupted or something. Is there anyway you can get your hands on a SP2 disk? Once repaired, I also recommed you upgrade to SP3 for XP.

I'm using SP3 already and I have no clue on how I'd get my hands on a SP2 disk.

sorry for being off-topic here. anybody thinks firefox 3.0 is better than 3.5? or is it just me? i'm using it for a while already, i must say i'm not too satisfied with it. it's less stable than 3.0, it hangs every once in a while. it feels like it's using more system resources as well.

Have you tried running a system restore to a point before all this crashing started - before all your risque browsing?

I also get freezes in firefox 3.5. The freeze is on the entire computer so i cant move mouse or use keyboard, nothing movies on the screen, its a sudden freeze. I dont know why this is happening but its very annoying. It happens randomly, I havent had same issue with ie8 so am pretty sure its just firefox.
