Firefox's auto-update can be spotty, so you might want to check and make sure that it is up to date (Firefox->Help->About in 4.0 and above; it'll also check for updates on the About page) and you're not just experiencing some old bug before changing. But otherwise yeah, it's probably a bug and you'll be better off with either Chrome or IE9 (which is surprisingly good).
I went back to FF because Chrome doesn't save passwords like FF.
BoristheBlade1
Yes it does...
But anyway. I prefer Firefox as well.
OT: TC, make sure that you don't count Adobe Flash. That uses a lot of CPU.
Just for the record; I am running Firefox 10.0.1 on Windows 7 64-bit with four tabs open and am using... 0-2% CPU. So either you have a really bad CPU, are counting Flash, or something has gone wrong and you need to purge your plugins.
Chrome isn't a vastly superior browser. The fact that Chrome is growing so quickly is because of Google's advertisements and because the false information that Chrome is far better is spreading.
Yeah-folks have been complaining about FF's CPU usage for a while now. FF is aware, and have said they have been trying to resolve that, but that was over a year ago that I read that article.
I personally use IE 8 & 9 depending on which PC i use. I know it has plenty of Ney's - but I really don't have much of an issue. I dont use any kind of Protection software either. I dont remember the last Time i've had any notable Malware to speak of. But that point is moot by most IE haters.
Been on palemoon (optimixed firefox) for over 2 years and have never seen my cpu usage over 5% and that is with a stream running, and 7-8 webpages tabbed. If your CPU is getting eaten up, something else is the problem causing firefox to act strangely. Could be flash files, computer infections, or background programs you have running that are causing a conflict.
If you want to optimized firefox in the basecase: I always recommend you just start blocking all the ads, relinking, tracker traffic background sites etc with a couple plugins:
I HEAVLY suggest:
Ad Block plus
Ghostery
No script
Better Privacy
Disconnect

Chrome s***s all over IE. Thought so, but IE does what i need lol.[QUOTE="BattleSpectre"]

Lots of Torrent sites Like to upload Malware to ur PC, as well as Evil folks out there like to attach the same the same type of Malware to the downloaded files. And that attacts IE most of the time.IE6 ftw.
Just kidding.
Anyone here tried waterfox? It's supposed to be a fully 64 bit firefox so it should be faster. I'm thinking of trying it.
Firefox on mine also eats up RAM but not CPU resources. I don't mind. I have yet to use 5gb of the 8gb in my PC. The most it's used is a little over 4gb and that was with X-Plane 9 running.
Chrome may load fast, but it loads pages like it's on dial-up.
Snaptrap
Yeah, definitely.
Chrome is a rubbish browser anyway. I don't know why anyone uses it other than they are google-bots

Some of us like being part of a botnet.
Also the page loading thing used to bug me but the entire page loads before I can even move my cursor from the bookmark icon to any of the content on the page.

Use chrome instead.
Hellsing2o2
Chrome is pretty terrible. Opera is much better IMO.
The problem with opera is that it has compatibility issues with too many sites for my taste. However I do prefer it.

I would also be using Opera if it were not for the fact that it butchers nearly a quarter of my favourite websites. The ad-block is rubbish too but I could endure if it otherwise worked properly.
For now, Firefox is my most consistent browser. Chrome comes close but I dislike its interface (I always close tabs by accident) and the add-ons are not at firefox level. I also don't trust Google but maybe that is just paranoia :P

Ctrl+shift+t
I also close too many tabs usually though when I have 50+ open.
And chrome sucks with glitchspot, but so does every other browser
Which websites do you guys frequent? I haven't run across any website breaking issues yet with Opera. Even if there are, report them and make sure Opera fix them. Heck, I remember a major glitch here at GlitchSpot that rendered all browsers useless apart from Opera. :lol:Hexagon_777
It was about a year ago when I last tried Opera.
Btw, thanks for teaching me that shortcut Gummi. It will save me a lot of time :D

Every year or so I retry Opera, I can't recall how many years I've been going to and from opera, but my last stint was about 6 months ago. The issues I get are just from about a week of usage and a large portion of the sites I go to do not render properly. and then I go back to firefox/chrome/ie

I am no such person either but it takes like 20 seconds. :PNo it doesn't. Chrome is more of a resource hog than Firefox is.Chrome uses less CPU.

[QUOTE="BattleSpectre"]Hi five, but, I am using the fancy IE9 though :P. My PC renders 4000 hearts animations at 41FPS :P. And my PC can never run Java virus (not javascript), cuz I removed it, tehehe. I still have anti-virus to guard me against Flash virus. That's the only hole I have vs. web, so, I still need anti-virus to help me a little. I'm on IE9 too, sorry should have stated that :Pall you fancy pants using chrome, im just using normal internet explorer.

btw, my comment about Chrome was baseless. I merely intended to spew nonsense just as the pro-Chrome people do about FF :P
I did set my firefox to cache to ram rather than disk to run faster, but atm i have 18 tabs open and it's using 650MB of ram.

What I don't understand is why people worry about 650MB of RAM for 18 tabs when they have 4GB+ RAM. People always worry about RAM usage but most of us have plenty of RAM to spare even when our browser is using 1GB.
I'm not saying that we should accept bloated software but honestly, under normal usage (6 or less tabs) RAM usage is never a problem on a modern PC. Even my 1GB of RAM netbook is OK.
Just for the record, Chrome uses more RAM than Firefox!

I agree. I have never cared how much memory my browser was using as I have always had enough ram. Please Log In to post.
