Does anyone have any recommedations for Firewall and AntiVirus software? Im currently only running AVG (no firewall) and I've decided I need to go out and get something abit more protective. I've used Norton in the past, but I've been told to stay away from them. Im basically looking for an all in suite, with firewall, anti virus and the nice addons like spyware protector if available. Any ideas?

I use Zonealarm antivirus for firewall and program control and nod32 as an antivrius, i disable zonealarms on demand scanner.... firewall for zonealarm is excllent and alos lets u monitor every program excuted so u can determine if its bad or good... the nod32 is light on the on demand scanner and does not take system resources even when playing a game... alsom updates reguraly and if there is a virus not indentified yet. it will stop it becuz it recoginezes it by scanning what its doing..

Those are some good programs, but if you want to look at an alternative, Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0 is a great choice as well. It is fast, light on resources and has one of the highest detection rates (Nod32 is it's only real competition). It also has a very good firewall and the whole system can be configured if you know nothing about firewalls or if you're an expert, it has very many options. It's optimized for multi-threading and has 64bit support as well. It also has hourly updates (seems extensive but you won't even notice it, updates really quickly in the background).

$70 gets a liscense for 2 computers for a year I think, it's a good deal. The previously mentioned software is also very good.

Zone alarm is based on the kaspersky engine + its has program control.... but kaspersky is much easier for the casual user... while zonealarm is the more tech savy..... or u just research the programs that popup, when they are being blocked :)

I'd go with the Zone Alrm free firewall, keep your AVG for a "constant resident shield scanner" and then get BitDefender Free. The free Bitdefender does not constantly scan but works awesome as a "on-demand" scanner. This combination works well and is free.
