You need to uninstall that piece of crap antivirus software. It is a system hog. You need to get nod32 or f-prot.

That's exactly what I did. My year was up and so was Norton. I always had trouble with it and Steam. Now see which one I still have.:)

I originally had 2005 and upgraded online Nov 2006. That ran until Nov 2007 and when it wanted to reup I didn,t. It came to an end when I was upgrading drivers and I somehow got into a loop upon reboot where Norton kept popping up with a screen (can't remember which one sorry) I couldn't get rid of to finish my update. So I uninstalled Norton and everything sense has worked fine. Some of the earlier problems where Norton seeing Steam things as worm attacks.

It's a system hog get another kind. These forums are full of suggested alternatives.

2007. I never used to have problems until I switched my internet two days ago. I don't know if it's the firewall but's worth a shot.

Seriously, when people say uninstall that garbage, they're right. There are so many great free options out there, it's silly to have that bloated norton suite on your machine. Uninstall it and get nod32 or AVG or something of that nature. They're free, lightweight, and won't have nearly as many irritating conflicts with your games.

I agree with the consensus. Uninstall Norton, it's crap. Do a Google search for free antivirus and firewall software. Any are better than Norton.

You could try AVG free, and Zone Alarm free, but regardless, you will have to set your current firewall to allow your games full access incoming and outgoing traffic (this includes any 3rd party software like Steam etc) or you will run into problems, also make sure your windows firewall is not active either, as this can only further gum things up.

In your firewall settings, look for allowed programs, if the ones related to your games are listed, change their priveleges to full access, if they are not listed, you will have to manually add them.

But really, you would be better off uninstalling Norton, it's is a good product, but not for gamers, likewise for McAffee, the free stuff out there will do nearly as good a job, if not better when running an anti-virus, a couple of spyware detectors and a good firewall, they tend to run "lite" not using as much system resources.

But if you do plan on keeping the one you already have, then you may wan't to check out your help file, or Norton support, which isn't usually much help, you would be better off contacting support directly.

Unfortunately, the best place to look would be a Norton Users Forum, but as far as I know, one does not exist.
