Hey guys this is a first build I am planning. I will be playing on a 30 inch 2560x1600 monitor. Including these items I plan to crossfir two ATI 5870's. Please let me know if there are any problems in this build. Suggestions and your opinions are welcome! :D I think this will be a pretty bad ass set up for 2560x1600 gaming. Will this power supply work with the crossfir 5870?

I'm sorry, but would that even be able to crossfire 2 ATI cards? Otherwise it's quite top of the line.

1200w is overkill IMO you'd be fine with 850w, but if you don't mind paying the money for it go for it.

Your RAM will be running in dual channel, unless you get another 2x2gb kit giving you a total of 12gb, but that's overkill. You need to get a triple channel kit, with 3x 1gb (3gb) or 3x 2gb (6gb), 6gb being the best option.

SLi motherboards are for nvidia cards. Not ATI. You need a crossfire board.

That's the kind of answer I was looking for. And I could only find one x58 board with crossfire compatibility and it's a brand I've never heard of, so I'd say it's this or go for nVidia. your call: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813136063&Tpk=x58%20crossfire

AFAIK, All X58 boards are 100% Crossfire AND SLI compatible, regardless of brand. And you need a triple channel memory kit, not dual channel, for X58 boards.

Looks decent. Although I'm somewhat partial to AMD for first builds. Honestly, I'd nab a 4870 or 2 of them for now until the 5870 actually proves itself. The whole 256bit interface kinda throws me off.

That board supports both CFX and SLI. I'd suggest getting a Prolimatech Megahalem and a CM Haf 932.

512-Bit costs MORE money and the R870 isn't BIG enough for a 512-bit interface. With the speed of DDR5 though it doesn't NEED a 512-Bit interface.

The memory bandwidth of the HD 5870 is 153.6 GB/s. Memory bandwidth of the 5850 is 128 GB/s. The memory bandwidth of the HD 4870 X2 115.2 GB/s.

Ok, and you're just quoting a bunch of numbers that I could care less about. Fact is, none of you all have 5870s yet. Never a good idea to be the first to have something. I just feel that ATI should be up to 512 bit interfaces by now. I'd like to see it anyway.

A 512-Bit interface COSTS MORE MONEY and will NOT NOT NOT NOT FIT ON THE 40NM R870.

Why do you think Nvidia is having so many problems with their GT300 chips? They went with a 512 Bit interface! Of the 400 plus chips they had made ONLY SEVEN CAME BACK WORKING
