THaT'S CRAZy. Never have I seen so many different lights to mimic the real world. All that with enhance AA will no doubt be mind blowing. Defiantly going too build my PC around the source engine 2 once the specs revealed. Best thread of the day.

OoSuperMarioO

It's not real man... It's a real pic with a fake hud over it, the colors and contrast are touched up a bit too.

You must be living in a dreamworld. The real world has much more lights, color and less of a vibrant then that screen. I reccomend glasses if your sight is poor.

 I think you're the one living in the dreamworld. Like I said, that can easily be touched up to look more artifical in less than 2 minutes on a MOVIE editor. Games won't look that good, especially in motion, for a long time...

Even if you was to edit that pic with a editor. The lights woulded wash out the image. The screen is vibrant yet the High dynamic lights dont wash out. This is comparable with movie rendering.

I was just messing around with the pic in an editor. It's clear to me they have used well placed saturation and contrasting to make it look more believable for a game. I increased the brightness by alot, and you can see without certain contrasted shadows that were there, it looks clearly like a real-life pic. I'm too lazy to post a pic, but it's pointless eitherway, it's just not possible for a game to look that good. I wish it could, but unless Valve has discovered some kind of tech from the future, it's not legit.

You know gaming graphics are reaching their absolute limit when a picture of real life can be edited to a minor degree and be made believable as something in-game.

Whether fake or not, this, like the CryEngine2 are going to be the next step. Go back a decade and show Crysis to the gamers back then and they would probably call it "CG."

Valve wouldn't put the "HL3" thing on there, they would have VALVe instead, and the hud doesn't make sense without a weapon or anything. They wouldn't make it that blatent and non-legit looking.

Wow, sorry, but anybody who thinks thats an in-game pic is retarded. It's obviously fake, nothing can look that good, it's not possible yet. It's clearly a real-life pic with a fake hud slapped on to it, look at the top right, the object out of focus for a better idea that it's a real-life pic.TheGrayEye

Have you played Crysis? I don't think we are that far off.

Yeah, we are pretty close to almost photorealistic gaming.

It's not that we can't create it, it's that we can't process it yet with our computers.

I've played through Crysis on all very high with no AA. It's easily the best looking game in existence. But it doesn't look as good as the pic shown. Because the pic shown is not an in-game pic. IF ANYTHING, it's pre-rendered like when Crysis was originally shown, compared to now. Look closer at the details like the corners of the white walls, and the bars.

I must say if this is a photoshopped image whoever has done it has invested a lot of time. I am in two minds about its validility. On the one hand the colours and HDR effects look very much like from a game and would be very time consuming to photoshop a real life pic. However a render could be a valid reason.

The lighting on the walls is extremely well done as you can see the bumps in the concrete, I still think thats too hard for a game to render in real time.

What probably makes me errr on the side of its a fake is the terrain. If you look at the ramps and what not they are not very smooth, showing lot a lot of underlations and irregularities. A game would not be this this detailed.

Pffh, bump-mapping is so Doom 3. Parallax occlusion mapping is where the money is nowadays.

That doesn't look real

I hope you're kidding...

Also imagine this actually in motion, like playable right there... you cant, because it's not possible to have graphics that good.

I imaginated it just fine

I was refering to how the lighting affects the bumps rather than just stating there is bumps in the wall (albeit I explain it poorly). If you notice there is a shimmer type effect that one gets when light hits a large surface uneven in parts (like light shining on an aluminium fridge).

And for the underlations check out where the driveway meets the left wall, its not straight. You can not use bump mapping to create lines sticking out. It would be too much of a waste of polygons to model that in such detail.

I'd say it's fake, I guess it's cause there's no proof of it being real....it does look good though, but CryEngine2 is the better if you ask me....

obviously fake, besides you know how much source cost valve to make? Thats why half life 2 was one of the most expensive projects of all time, the complexity of the physics in the game cost too much investment of time and money to get rid of 4 years later, especially when the source still looks great and is easily upgradeable. True the engine is showing age, but source has always been a beneath the surface engine, with the amazing physics and faces and what not.

the funny thing is, for indoor enviroments, I can probably have crysis look that great, but only because the Resolution is really that small.

Ah, I don't think anyone thinks it's legit, the question is whether it's a photo or computer generated.

Have they found a way to do POM without having ugly texture distortion?
