i know i probably could of done a quick google search and found out for myself, but i thought id make a forum topic to talk about this, in the 90s there were a few awsome Flying combat games, I remember playing Combat Simulator, Apache (not sure if that was the name but if im wrong it was a helicopter combat game),Wing Commander, X-Wing Versus Tie Fighter, and my personal all time favorite X-Wing Alliance. I was in best buy the other day, just browsing and noticed this awsome flight joystick setup by Saitek, it was a two piece set, a flight stick with a bunch of buttons, and a throttle also had a few buttons. Looked awsome, but I thought to myself, its roughly $100 so if I were to get it, I'd want to play a bunch of games on it, though I wouldn't buy it to re-live my Tie-Fighter days, so are there any good flying combat games coming out? If not, does any one think there will be a revival of the genre in the next 5 years? And what's your favorite Flying Combat game?
Upcoming, not necessarily in the too near future, look for Oleg's sequel to IL2, Storm of War: Battle of Britain. Going back further in time, a Russian developer under Neotech(sp?) is producing a World War I game tentatively called Knights of the Sky using the IL2 engine. If you like helicopters it looks like the thing to look forwards to is DCS: Black Shark featuring Russian attack helicopters.
Currently the best combat flight sim out there is still IL2, which you can get with all it's expansions for only $20 under the title IL2 1946.
