Windows XP
P4 2.61ghz
512 MRam
Some really crappy graphic card
200 GB HDD Unknown manufracturer
NEC DVD-RW 16x
20'inch flatscreen monitor

Those are my current system specs. Am looking to get a new kickass graphic card in the price range of 0-200(250$) and another 512 MRam or so to be able to play the games I want.

Any help on recommended graphic cards is welcomed.

Thanks

It would help knowing what kind of graphics card interface you have - very likely AGP, but some older systems have PCI only (not to be confused with PCI-E).

It won't be that weak if he has a p4, 1 gig of ram, and an agp x1950pro (my recommendation). But ram is pretty cheap, so you should see if you can get 2 gigs. What type of ram is your mobo standard? And though it is probably agp you should check what kind of graphics card slot you have. And you should probably just get rid of the old 512mb since mixing ram isn't good.

Your system sounds a lot like mine before i upgraded it. However we need to know what interface you have? AGP or PCI-E. Judging from the speed of your p4 you have AGP.

Thanks for the replies. I am pretty unaware of hardware (my friend helped me with this computer some year ago). Where do I find out if I have AGP or PCI-E? If there is some kind of program/site that lists my computer specs, I would use that to compile a complete list for you guys.

Thanks.

You could use CPU-Z which will tell you your motherboard which you could then look up and find out about. Also, i think motherboards under the 900 series chipset don't support PCI-E.

PCI? Don't bother investing more money in that ancient rig, save your cash for a whole new one.

really you should change the cpu/motherboard/gpu. I'm guessing you have agp and not pcie as if you don't have pcie there isn't much point in upgrading as those card are over priced. amd has some really cheap cpus now, 7900gs/7950gt/x1950pro are great midrange cards

Save your money and buy a new system. You can buy a really good system for around 800-1200 dollars.

Even if you got an AGP video card your CPU would bottleneck and I doubt your PSU would handle it.

I'd say you should certainly think about going with 2GB of RAM, over 1GB. The difference is pretty large.
