For all those who buy higher wattage PSU's just "to be safe".

A QX6800 at 2.93Ghz,2GB Ram,I HDD,optical drive,high end intel mobo,sound card and 8800 GT only uses 317W on "full load".So what kind of safety do you need when countless sites show similar results of power consumption.With a 450 or 500W PSU you can easily overclock and add 2GB more RAM and still you will be safe.

So save yourself some money just make sure to buy a quality PSU with sufficient amounts of amps on the 12+V rail.An overkill watatge PSU wont give you anything extra.

Like my system uses total at max load 437 watts but I have a 600 watt the thing is you want a bigger psu so it dont has to strain providing power.

How about future upgrades? I don't want to buy a new psu every time I get new hardware.

Are you forgetting SLI/Crossfire?? What if I for example, have deep pockets and want to spring for a SLI setup, or god forbid--one of those nifty quad-SLI setups in the future? I don't think 500watts would necessarily cut it.......

That's one of the main reasons why I went w/my 750watter.......

I buy my psu's based on amperage instead of watts. Its just a coincidence that most high amp psu's also have high watts. As for doing it for safety..i pretty much know how much i need. I buy way ahead of my power usage so i dont have to look at the specs on stuff everytime i upgrade to something that uses more power.

At first glance you make a valid argument after all the next video card class up uses more power most of the time. BUT I don't see a video card using 100watts more over the previous class. I think everyone should get a 500 min and 600 if you have the money to blow... But when you see ppl (like my friends) buying 800+...... crazy.

exactly what I was thinking, when I get a new GPU and possibly CPU in 2-3 years, I will be glad that I have the 600W PSU, plus I have 5 USB devices always connected, one of which is an external HDD.

HaHa, no that antec 850 cant run the geforce 8800gt/gts's they have problems with it, I know I know SHHHHH... they arent suppose to know that ;)

I just bought the Thermaltake 850. 50.00 rebate on new egg now. Just in case! Also Sli compatable.
